  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

DS game recommendations?

Ok, I ordered a DS and am hoping it will arrive Tuesday. I picked up a couple of games already to get started and was pretty amazed at the selection they had. I never expected to see Splinter Cell or Lego Star Wars but there they were. I'm thinking of getting Age of Empires as well.

I got Brain Age and Deep Labyrinth. What are some good games for the DS. I'm not really crazy about platformers but will probably start getting into them some. What are some good platformers for a beginner?

Thanks!

Mostly RPGs and RTS, though I do like a good sneaker. I'll almost certainly pick up Splinter Cell. Are there any more conventional RPGs like Deep Labyrinth seems to be? I'll probably get FFIII even though console type RPGs aren't my favorite. I played FFX on PS2 and liked it ok and I loved LOTR: Third Age.

If you like Final Fantasy, they have one for the DS already that's 3-D, and I think that soon they will be coming out with Final Fantasy Tactics (let's hope it's the original) for it as well. I read in my Game Informer about Tactics. Don't get Trace Memory, because it is a very short play and has virtually no replay value as it is a puzzle game.
Also, Final Fantasy X isn't really ranked in the best Final Fantasy category. I thought it kinda bit, myself, because if you didn't get the airship then it was a one-way road. Not like FF6 for the GBA. That's one of the best games in Final Fantasy.
OKAY, now I'm done dorking out.

Ok, here's my thoughts.

For GBA, try the Advance Wars series (there's one for DS as well), Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, and the Golden Sun duology.

Advance Wars is a turn-based strategy game. Military and everything, but still quirky and fun.
Fire Emblem is also turn-based strategy, with lots of RPG elements and a good story.
FFT is also turn-based strategy (see a pattern here?) but with more in-depth RPG elements.
Finally, Golden Sun is a traditional RPG with...you guessed it...turn-based combat. But it has a great story.

Personally, I think that the GBA has much stronger games than the DS (so far). So if you haven't tried any of these GBA gems, go for it. You'll be surprised.

Hmm... For your particular genre, I'd say definitely FFIII and Advance Wars.
But to truly appreciate the DS, I'd strongly recommend getting games like Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros., Metroid and Animal Crossing. These are some really good games, and I guarantee you'll enjoy them! I do!

You say you're sorta looking for a platformer. If you're looking for one with a bit of RPG-ish elements thrown in, try either of the Castlevania games: Dawn of Sorrow or Portrait of Ruin. Dawn of Sorrow might be the slightly better one, and you can probably find it a bit cheaper, too.

Cool, thanks! I played Dracula's Revenge on NES back in the day and really liked it so I'll definitely give them a try. If I can ever get the DS in my hands, that is. I had to cancel that order because of a problem with the bank and am waiting for the authorization hold to release the money back to me so I can just go buy one. Hopefully, I'll be playing tomorrow evening.
