Driven and dedicated father

I didn't really take offense to that-I took it to mean, he's in a position where his daughters hair needs done and he's a single dad. Someone's gotta do it! Good for him! My husband doesn't do our girls hair, he does things with them that he has talents in...such as art and music, etc. I do what I do best as well, but that doesn't mean we both don't try to do things we don't normally do. If I'm not home and they need a ponytail, dad will help. Not saying it's going to look lovely....but he will try. If dad's not home and my son asks me to draw yoda, which has happened, he smiles at me and says, I'll just wait for daddy.

I think we should stop telling people what to be and do, PERIOD. Why assume all dads are hands-off with their daughters, or mothers with their sons? Why assume that all daughters want to bake cookies and all sons play football? Just stop it! You handle YOURSELF and YOUR family and YOUR kids and stop telling other parents and families how to handle their own business!!!

Oh my gosh... *deep breath*... minding your own business... TRY IT!

But if your dad were single (when you were this little girl's age) wouldn't *someone* have to be brushing and and fixing your hair? It might as well be your father.

Knowing my dad, he would have taken scissors and just chopped my hair off.

I'm certainly not downing this man for being such an involved dad; I think it's awesome. What irritates me is his assumption that he's in a position to lecture OTHER parents.

I don't think I'd call what he's doing as "lecturing" (sorry, Inka---I really hate disagreeing with you). He just stated his opinion---that he thinks men and women can behave outside their traditional roles (paraphrased). How else do we break through things that limit us (as a whole) other than sort of bucking the previous beliefs? I happen to admire it when people step out and make positive changes and don't see their circumstances as limiting them.

I heard about two other stories that I see as relative to this....these:

I love the clothes for girls!!! That's totally what I would've worn as a little girl Sure, I loved rainbows and ponies, but I also loved robots and aliens and Transformers and He-Man. Heck, one of the biggest perks of having a son is that I've gotten to enjoy all the boy stuff that he's into, like I'm getting a 2nd childhood of my own

One of our favorite shows is Adventure Time. I have an Adventure Time blanket, stuffed character, cup, encyclopedia, and soon to be backpack for my new college class Tomboys rule!
