  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'll probably take a drink when I come of age in a few years, but I'm not necessarily looking forward to it. I think in the long run I'll realize that I was a lot more excited about getting my driver's license and registering to vote than getting to drink alcohol.
It doesn't taste that good anyway.

I don't think that there is a problem with a few drinks, though God does warn us in scripture about those who drink too much! And we should not be one of those. I have never drank much...don't care for the taste. Also, be careful of it, since if you are drunk, someone may take advantage of you...or you may drive home drunk and cause an accident. I would say drink in moderation....that is the wisest thing to do.

Drinking, whether one drink or ten drinks, opens the door to further passions and desires. We must suppress these desires in order to control and discipline our lives according to God's commandments. Jesus did indeed drink, yet he never sinned because that would conflict with His divine nature. However we are humans and sin, and we sin the more we allow ourselves oppurtunities to pollute our souls. God is not as legalistic as we make Him out to be, He looks to the heart. And we must change our heart from earthly desires to heavenly (Christ). However, it is not a sin to drink, but would help on our spiritual journeys if it was cut off. I am guilty of this passion, and I am chief among sinners. Forgive me if i sound hypocritical...

I just became a bartender at my 2nd job. (yay).

Jesusfreak, I'm not coming down on you or anything, but I get the feeling you're looking for someone to agree with you're drinking. (in the OP you painted a pretty wild and un necessary contrast to what you're doing). I personally have no problem with you drinking at 19, and you're right, some 34 year olds aren't mature enough to handle it.

If you live in America, you're breaking the law, there's no way around that and all the internet threads in the world won't hold up in court and you can't tell you're kids to wait until they're 21 because they'll do it just to spite their mother for being a hypocrit.

I didn't drink when I was underage because I didn't want too. The age limit isn't a deterant for anybody I've ever met.

If you want to drink, that's on you to decide.

 I wanted to thank you all for your opinions and advice! I guess at the end of the day it's all about what God is telling me.
be sure to back that up with scripture. If God's telling you underage drinking is okay, but scripture says obey the laws of the land, then the voice you hear that says "do it" probably isn't God and you need to ask yourself some differnet questions.

If you feel God is telling you to do something contradictory to what the Bible says, your unrest may not be about drinking, but maybe God's talking to you about obedience in the face of overwhelming realities.

The reality is that everything you've said in support of drinking at 19 is valid. But God's got a pretty black and white program when it comes to obedience and it's got very little to do with our opinions on how things *should* be.

hope this helps, and hopefully I didn't come off like a jerk or anything.

Where I live to drink under 21 is not legal. Beyond that. I do not think it is sin to drink unless you drink in excess. I think excess is slightly different for everyone. To be safe I don't drive if I've had more than 2 drinks the entire party. Hope you come to an aswer and have a great time.

Sers!

I never still have drunk alcohol, although most alcohol are allowed in Germany from the age of 16.
I don't understand why it should be necesary to drink..?
I can be crazy without drinking alcohol ;)

but this has nothing to do with my faith ;)
my faith just says don't drink so much that you get/become drunken (Epheser 5,8)

ya blesses!

That depends on whether or not I'm driving and the age of the coworkers. Drinking alcohol would probably be the furthest thing from my mind, actually.

Well, if your'e American then you're underage, which is against the law.

A good way to do something positive in your position is to be the driver. None of my friends ever got in trouble related to driving while drunk. They never got hurt or hurt anyone else.
As a female, you could look out for your other female friends as well.
You could do a lot of good.

A glass of wine is okay every now and then, especially dinner. But the rest to me, it's a perfectly good waste of money, I'd rather drink a bottled water than slowly poision myself with alcohol. As read, it can become an addiction. I don't want to even dabble in the risk of it.

One thing I have learnt is that even if you don't agree with something we are all sinners and everyone messes up sometimes at many times in life as a christian and before you became one too. Therefore don't judge, pray, be a friend try and understand why. I don't drink, I don't think it is a good witness as a christian to drink, I think alcohol is over-rated, no alcohol tastes as good as a Dr.Pepper, a strawberry milkshake, cool blue raspbery Gatorade or an ice-cold glass of juice.

I use to drink, I use to drink a lot, I use to drink so much I don't remember certian years of my young life and have had to play catch up for years as having destroyed my high school education as a result. I just can't drink I'm highly addicted to alcohol, I know I tried drinking again in a bad stage in my life it was a big mistake, but thats long gone now. Some christians believe all alcohol is wrong and some believe instances where alcohol was drunk in the Bible it was not fermented meaning I believe it wasn't alcoholic, now I don't know about that, I don't know anything about wine making or am I sufficiently knowledgeable to be able to determine whether its is possible to know if the wine drank in scripture was alcoholic. What I do know it destroys lives. Kids at school only 11 are getting regularly waisted every weekend. Alcohol is the acceptable drug, but it destroys so many lives, wastes so many lives, costs huge amounts in health care. I know it can be drunk responsibly, and I don't judge other christians for drinking afterall I'd be the biggest hyopcrite if I did, but I believe the world would be a better place without it.
