Drinking??

My personal opinion... I enjoy a drink now and then, but I usually choose to do it at home or at a friend's home - in PRIVATE - as a youth leader, I try not to go out and drink, as this may cause others to stumble (see previous post) but I do not object to drinking in moderation.

I was almost 21 1/2 before I first had an alcoholic drink. It wasn't that big of a deal. I didn't get drunk and don't plan on ever being drunk. It's just not a big deal for me to drink. I can do it or not...I don't do it to be drunk.

Kids drink as young as 14 here. And they get plastered. The 18 thing doesn't matter to them, obviously. The drinking age used to be 18 in my state, but it got raised again to 19 and raised yet again to 21 because most of the 18-21 year olds do not vote.

I know it's not what you meant but it really sounds like the authorities thought people better be drunk when voting!

Like I said before, the American drinking culture is very irresponsible. When you compare it to France or Germany there is a big difference. What can I say, they can drink but we can drive.

I do use alcohol reasonably regularly but I've never been drunk and don't plan to be. My husband and I collect wine and love sharing it with good friends. I believe that is exactly what Jesus was doing when He turned water into wine. I also believe the Bible is very clear on the fact that drinking is not wrong (Paul told Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach, etc.) but that drunkenness is definitely wrong.

There are 2 gray areas in this, IMO: When you know a single drink will be too much of a temptation, or when you think having a single drink will cause weaker Christians to stumble.

On the underage thing: I don't know American laws but aren't those referring to drinking in public? I mean, can a father be arrested for offering his 20-year-old son a drink with Sunday dinner in Virginia?

As for me, I don't like getting drunk. But drinking alcohol doesn't mean the person wants to get drunk. I enjoy having a drink or two when hanging out with friends, and when I was in Spain for summer courses, I'd have a glass of sangria pretty much every night. No big deal, and in some cultures, it's normal to drink alcohol in moderation daily. I remember when I was 10, my family visited my mother's friend, who is Italian, and the kids (who were my age and younger) were drinking wine with dinner.

Hey everyone! I wanted to ask everyone's opinion on alcohol. I'v never really drank alot... even before I came to know the Lord. However, all through the year a friend of the family has parties (like halloween, Christmas eve, new years, ect.) and usually everyone has a few drinks. These are not the kind of parties where everyone gets drunk, has sex with someone they don't know, and passes out. It's just simple, friends getting together having a few drinks. My question to all of you is, how do you think God feels about alcohol?? Do you think that it is a sin?? Is is it a sin? Alot of people convert back to the bible about it. They say that Jesus drank wine. Well, my youth pastor used to tell us that if we could make wine the way the Lord did then we should feel free to drink. I don't know... I'm confused about it! Saturday is the Christmas eve party and I don't want to do anything to up set the Lord.

If you feel unsure about whether or not it is right or wrong, don't do it. I personally do not feel that drinking in moderation is bad. I can't have more than one or two drinks anymore because of a medication I take. I stopped drinking because doing so with the medication seems to make me feel sick. I can't say that I miss drinking too much.

I think it's silly to condemn alcohol and drinking alcoholic drinks. It's bad to become an alcoholic, but that's not always the case with people who drink.

I don't drink any alcohol, but I don;t have any problem with others who do so in moderation. I tried a few kinds of drinks in HS (that my parents offered to me) and didn't like anything, so just before i turned 21 I decided that I wasn't going to drink once I was of age. I'm 23 now and havn't had anything since. My bf ironically enough used to bartend for banquets and such, but doesn't drink much anyway.

I will go to a party with alcohol, but don't often because its not really what my friends do.

I am from Virginia ... no I am not of age to drink. There is a big diffrence between getting drunk and having a few drinks. In the past when I drank, I never made a sceen or got into any trouble. Like you said, I see nothing wrong with having a little to drink in a safe place. Growing up, my parents never minded if I drank a glass of wine at dinner with them. What is "underage" anyways. A 35 year old can be far less mature than a 18 year old. I am 19, married and I have a child... I feel that I am "of age" to drink. Ya know? Anyways, hope that answered your question

Check your state laws. I know in certain states if you are under 21 but married OR married to a person over 21 you are legal to have alcohol.

I drink wine almost every night with dinner. And if we go out to eat I will sometimes have a margarita or something as well. It is possible to drink responsibly, and if done so, drinking is fine.

I do not believe that drinking is a sin, unless it is done in the 'wrong way'.
The 'wrong way' I would just be simply doing it in excess, becoming 'drunk' and then acting in a vulgar way.
I see nothing wrong with a person having one or two drinks 'just because'. Afterall wine was given to us as something to enjoy.

Well, I was raised around alcohol.

I drink on the weekend every 2 weeks.

I have no problem with it.
No it is not a sin.
It's only a sin, when you dilebrately make a brother stumble, Or become addicted to it.

I never used to drink, but then I moved away for uni and I've started drinking :S (for those that don't know the drinking age is 18 here, so it's not illegal ) I was almost in a bad situation last night - I was at a pub with some people from my residential college and there was a guy(from my college) who kept giving me drinks, I don't think he put any thing in it because he was drinking from the same jug... but I did sorta sense that he was trying to get me drunk :S It made me really uncomfortable, so I left.

I think drinking is fine as long you're of the legal age and are smart about it.

Hmm..I probably will drink when I turn 21 (1yr, 8 months, and 24 days..but hey, who's counting? )..but not take to the habit of being drunk.
