• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My thoughts on this are.. I could drink if I wanted.. and I could because I like the taste etc..
But I have chosen not too.. more for a wittness.. then anything.. People ask why don't I drink and I can use it as an opportunity to share with them about my faith!!

It is not good to have such a strong stand that I make others feel bad for what they choose to do.. drink or not.. you have to make the descision yourself..
People are not going to listen to you or respect you if you make them feel bad for what they do.. I believe I need to be strong over what I stand for... and then if my life follows suit.. and my walk is evident.. my faith might rub of or be an encouragement to others!!

just because you stand for something, that dont mean that we are wrong,
its not a sin to drink, it is to get drunk, jesus made water into wine, and it was real alcohol wine, no grape juice. the king said that he saved the best for last, they were not talking about grape juice, its anyones choice to decide if they want to drink wine, however no one should condem a child of God not to do it because its not wrong. i am more closer to God than ever before and i will have a drink of champaign. i dont feel bad, because i have no reason to feel bad for it, my faith is strong in God, and i want to encourage others also. jesus himself was the savior of the world and he drink, how are we greater than him?

According to some teachers, the words used in both Hebrew and Greek that translate to wine (that many claim refers only to a fermented beverage) has been used to refer to BOTH the fermented wine and unfermented grape juice.
I believe before anyone can claim that wine ONLY means a fermented drink, this dispute over the meaning of these words need to be cleared up in an HONEST and scholarly manner.

I do not believe drinking is a sin. My old church believed it was. My parents now have BBQs and get togethers w/ people from their new church, they offer their guests anything from lemonade to tea to beer. Some of the people choose a beer, others do not drink and thus choose something else. Either way, they still have a great fellowship together and.....I know many a person who is close in their walk w/ the Lord who has been known to down a beer or 2.

Gina.. Your own words show up that you are not completely convinced that drinking even a small amount is right because of your defensiveness as to what I wrote about my own conviction.. Nowhere in my post did I say what other Christians should be doing...
just because you stand for something, that dont mean that we are wrong,

The thing is.. I have found.. that when I take a stand.. I either make people feel uncomfortable without even trying (maybe not me.. but the Holy Spirit??)) or they just shrug their heads and keep drinking..

I once might have put own opinions forward to other drinking.. my hubby drinks occasionally and I always used to make him feel bad by saying.. Don't do that.. you know I hate alcohol ect.. ect..

But on his birthday recently.. I gave him the shock of his life.. I bought him alchohol... We were on holidays.. away from home..

He knows I don't drink.. and I bought him his favourite drink... I could have had one with him.. but you see I don't drink...
What he saw on that occasion was that I loved him.. so much that I respected his own desires even above my own.. that is a powerful wittness.. I also wittnessed on that occasion to his mother and step father.. Because when I went to buy it.. his mother said.. lets have something to drink.. I said.. nah.. and she didn't get any either.. :)

I have become rock solid on my own wittness... that I can be who I am in Christ.. and wittness to others without having to try to make other be just like me.. Would I buy him alchohol all the time.. NO... this was a one time I could show him my love..

Praise the name of Jesus... my hubby does not drink often.. and never brings it home.. but God can work through all circumstances..

Radagast, if I am right (and I assure you I have researched the matter), then you are in fact teaching people to sin. If I and all the authorities I read are wrong then you can ignore what I say.
When you squash grapes you get grape juice - available in any supermarket today. There are numerous methods of preserving grapes or the juice.

Even without research, the Holy Spirit teaches me that *any* quantity of intoxicant is wrong.
