Amen to you all! But I have an interesting question.

If your capacity is 6 drinks and you have 1, are you 1/6 drunk? This is what some will have you believe, but from what I can see in the Bible
drinking in moderation isn't a problem.

That raises another question; What is drunk?

Is it when you should avoid to drive? Because even one drink causes a decrease in motorics making it illegal to drive in many countries.

Is it when you become more talkative?

Is it when you start to feel your motions get more fluid, harder to control?

(these two points can vary in regards to which comes first depending on what you drink)

Is it when you get slurred speech?

Is it when others can see you can't move well?

Is it when you start to behave erratically/in a non-sober manner?

Is it when you vomit and lay sprawled on the ground?

Some wine (normally the cheap kind you get in cardboard containers) can make your motions turn fluid after a single glass. This is not because of the alcohol, but other substances in it making our muscles react to it quicker. Whiskey, Rum, and other drinks make you react differently. When drinking wine I stop once I feel my motions change if I drink enough to feel that. It has happened a couple of times with a single glass of cheap wine. Even with plenty food. But my mind was clear and drunk cannot describe it IMO.

Some one should do a survey here.
1) One should never brink.
2) One could drink in moderation.

I did a survey like this of about 50 people, and got 100% in favor of drinking. [Of cores I was in a bar when I took the survey] ;) :p

“Survey says”

lol

Ok, you must be the one that does the political polls too. Go to a democrat convention & get people's opinions on Bush's job performance. LOL

but seriously, I've heard reputable teachers speak on both sides of this issue. Some say the wine in the bible wasn't fermented; others say it was.
I haven't personally studied it myself, so I won't speak in ignorance either way.

But, we do have clear verses on not getting DRUNK.:)
Elders in the church aren't to be 'given to wine" in
1 Tim. 3:1-3, 1 Cor 5:11 & 11:21, Eph 5:18.

So, whether or not the wine in the Bible is fermented or not, IMO, doesn't matter because we're still given guidelines on not being drunk either way.

I think we CAN drink alcohol (as a liberty we have in Christ) - but in all things, moderation.
Eat food, but eat in moderation w/out gluttony.
Food isnt' bad, but it can be used wrongly & can be bad for us. If we eat ONLY desserts, what does that do for our health?

The issue as Paul defines it, is that if any liberty has control over you, then you are its slave. Don't let anything master you - have control over you.

If drinking has turned into a hinderance & stronghold, it's time to quit.

Nadiine you sound level headed to me. From a Jewish point of view the wine is fermented and G-d does in many cases says drink & be merry. And yes he also warns about being a drunkard.
