  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dream about a ministry

I just had this dream about a ministry that I had felt led to become a part of a few years ago. In the dream I knew I was in the state right next to where this ministry is located. I was with someone in my family. I was outside and looked up to see a sign that was blue with the words in white on a white pole. It had the ministry and the lady who's ministry it is name on it. I said to my relative something about going to the ministry since it was just the next state and we were so close.

We got there and went in. They were having what they call a gathering, which is like a revival meeting. So I went to sign in as everyone does at the gatherings when they arrive. The lady who's ministry it is...her daughter was at the brown sign in table. She signed me in and gave me a purplrle paper that said something about an Easter egg hunt. I remember looking at the paper then saying to my relative something like, "An Easter egg hunt in Sept.? That is odd, but ok." I had this tote bag sitting on the brown table and put the paper in it.

Then my relative said something and I said that he should not even be in the building. Then he was gone and I went on inside through a second set of double brown doors. All I remember after that is I walked outside and told my relative we should move there and not go home... I was almost begging them to. I said I would participate in activities and the lime there. Then suddenly I was back in the building and sitting on the floor (as does everyone at these gatherings, except for a few seats in the back. I was sitting by a chair (the chair was to my right) and saw the lady who's ministry it is sitting there talking to someone on the other side of her. I got a bit excited because I did not expect to see her sitting there. That is all I remember except that there were not many others there when I signed in or when I was sitting on the floor, so it was like I was very early ( in reality the place is usually packed to capacity when they have a gathering).

Any thoughts on this?

Popular and well-known ministries are commonly engaged in serious marketing and tout themselves as Spirit-filled ministries of the Lord. The white pole seems to represent the purity and holiness these ministries want to project, and they believe whole heartedly they’re truly anointed of the Lord.

Many like yourself travel great distances to attend and be a part of this kind of church, because of the excitement and allure. It’s like going to a concert, and the celebrity performers are on stage doing their thing to earn your loyalty and money. The value of attending these churches for many is in the entertainment. They are not designed to fulfill the Word of God in your life, but to feed into the ministry's own perceived success in the Lord. I liken members of this type of congregation to people studying to be a car mechanic in a classroom, but never getting under the hood of a car where the real learning takes place. You can attend this kind of church for decades and still not get any closer to God than you were before, or being any more transformed into the image of Jesus, which involves a lot of trials and sufferings. You may feel better about yourself momentarily, but need to come back every Sunday to be so-called “re-charged” for the coming week.

These ministries are quite often a family affair, with children and relatives of the minister working for the organization. Unfortunately, the ministry is centered around one person, and you’re just a number that’s been recruited to support this one person’s accomplishments, and not gain new ground in being a minister of the gospel according to your own calling.

There is nothing in the Bible that supports this type of large church organization. The Lord appointed YOU to walk in His footsteps and minister the gospel. He sent his disciples two by two to go house to house to spread the gospel. And they did so without money, fancy clothes or provision other than what they had on their backs. He never appointed them to establish a big church and run it like a business organization with size and money being the gauge of success in the Kingdom of God, and to have large groups of people submitted to one person. Jesus told his disciples to go heal the sick, cast out devils, raise the dead, etc. The same applies to every one of us. Instead, we’re drawn in by entertainment and never really accomplish what God has in store for us. If we are to be Kings and Priests like it states in Revelations 1:6, then we can’t afford to settle at being just a number.

I presume the piece of paper you were handed in the dream was a program. Purple is the color of royalty, and you are led to believe the celebrity speaker/pastor is special and of a royal class of Christian upheld by the Lord above everyone else, deserving your reverence. This is a patent falsehood. Jesus told his disciples the greatest among you shall be your greatest servant. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and told them to do it to each other. I haven’t seen any real foot washing from these celebrity ministers. Have you? The Apostle Paul suffered many beatings, persecutions and was even stoned and shipwrecked several times while establishing other people’s ministries., and he did so with joy, knowing his reward was great in Heaven, not on this earth. This is what we’re commanded to do- esteem others higher than ourselves and to lay up treasures in Heaven.

Easter has it’s origins from Babylon and the worship of Ishtar, the goddess of love and fertility. Her symbols were the bunny and colored eggs. This can be summed up in one word- “Prosperity”. Many churches, especially the large ones, follow after this false doctrine, and in essence are engaged in the worshipping of other gods. Refer to Ezekiel 8 and 9. God is quite angry about this. Ishtar is related to Baal, or Tammuz, which is one and the same.

I’ll speculate that your cousin in your dream probably said something negative about this ministry, which may have prompted you to tell him he didn’t even belong in the building. Or, perhaps you simply thought he was unworthy. Either way, the “ministry” is deemed to be above people, wheras Jesus humbled himself and sat and ate among publicans and tax collectors to minister to them.

As you enter, everyone is required to sit on the floor, which is symbolic and typical for this kind of ministry where the audience is made to feel lower than the revered minister. The minister is then set above everyone else with a spiritual vantage point looking down on everyone as if they were more important than you. But Paul said in Ephesians 5:21 to submit ye one to another in the fear of God. He didn’t say to elevate one above the other (1 Corinthians 12).

As far as the low attendance in your dream, I feel that it represents the actual number of people in these churches that are either genuinely saved, or are receiving anything substantial from the ministry. The place may be filled with people, but the actual number of people being ministered to are few.

Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

I believe God is calling you to an earthy ministry that is real, transparent, honest, forthright, common to all people.

The poor need you. Jesus thought much of the poor. They are the least, but we are to love them the same. Jesus said that whatever we do for them we have done it to HIM.

Often we shut the doors in their faces...
