  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Two easy questions:

1. Can science rule out Puff the magic dragon (or is it Pete?) ... whatever.

2. Can science rule out the efficacy of prayer?

Are you equating magic with prayer? Prayer is not magic. And as Puff the magic Dragon is fictitious and prayer is Spiritual; science does not deal in those realms so couldn't rule them in or out.

Not when Puff is an invisible player behind the scenes.

2. Can science rule out the efficacy of prayer?
Since answers to prayer allegedly can be "yes", "no" or "later" - no.

They make good Sunday school lessons about how the world thinks.

Actually, they're a great lesson in how you love to make an irreverent point that only makes sense in your own mind, then, when people fall for your games, you strut around proud as a peacock over the fact that you think that you won some big prize.

Not at all.

Correct.

So scientists did a study on the efficacy of prayer just to make themselves look busy?

Didn't they rule prayer out as being ineffectual?

...but it might make him look smart when he´s presenting out of context excerpts in Sunday School teachings.

1= yes.
2=yes.

Prayers offered by strangers had no effect on the recovery of people who were undergoing heart surgery, a large and long-awaited study has found.

And patients who knew they were being prayed for had a higher rate of post-operative complications like abnormal heart rhythms, perhaps because of the expectations the prayers created, the researchers suggested.... source
So says science.

James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
So says God.

Science will never be able to prove the existence of God, who lives in secret, though it may well disprove His existence to many. In fact, the teachings of man may well render the teaching of the Lord obsolete; such as it was before the flood. This who demand verifiable proof of God's existence will have it only when they kneel before Him. God expects us to come to Him on faith. It's not enough to know that He is real. The demons know this, and they tremble.

It can show that any effect Puff has is indistinguishable from statistical normal.

2. Can science rule out the efficacy of prayer?

It can show that any effect prayer has is indistinguishable from statistical normal.
