  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've heard his name in the past and believe it was good.

But I have just been reading online some very negative things.

I understand sometimes that can be a good thing - the devil attacking us.

So for those that may be familar with his teachings/books, what do you think?

I started checking up on him when I was reading his devotional.

I like to know about the people whose devotionals I read.

Don't give me devotional links - I read many - and have many more links.

Thanks in advance for any insights on Dr Charles Stanley.

I was just listening to him as i opened your thread, magnify. His sermon was along these lines: You cannot become a Christian until the Holy Spirit illuminates you. A person can't come to salvation on their own. Unless the spirit draws them they will not come. The fact that ppl are concerned about not being drawn, reveals that God is already working on them. As people age and remain unregenerated, their hearts continue to harden.

Sounded very reformed. I have not read or heard him very much.

Actually he is Arminian. While this is just hearsay I believe I heard that he has gotten into mysticism and his son had split from him because of it. I have listened to him many times and have not heard much form him that was any real good. He preaches a lot of how to stuff. He also says listen a lot. ;) I personally wouldn't reccommend him.

If you want an excellent devotional reading I would reccommend Robert Hawker's "Poor Man's Morning and Evening Portions". It is the most Christ centered and Calvinistic one I have ever read including Spurgeon's. If you want I think I can find a website to order it.
