Videos posted on social media showed a group of about 70 people — some of whom had previously attended similar demonstrations in North Hollywood, Glendale and elsewhere — wearing black-and-white shirts reading, “Leave our kids alone.” They chanted the same slogan through bullhorns while hurling verbal abuse and slurs at the guest reader.

“What was meant to be a celebration of love and inclusion turned into the opposite,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, the event’s host, said in a statement Thursday.

“Protesters claimed they want to keep children safe while pounding on walls, shouting obscenities and slurs toward my staff and library staff, and using strollers to blockade moving vehicles. The hypocrisy is astounding,” Horvath said.

[The event] did not proceed because demonstrators “blockaded” entrances — denying entry to both library patrons and drag queen Pickle, the guest reader.

About six to eight protesters refused to leave the entrance even after police issued a dispersal order, according to Pickle. The San Fernando Police Department did not confirm or deny whether such an order had been given.

[After trying both rear and front entrances] Pickle received a text from Horvath’s staff telling her to leave since she was unable to enter the building. After receiving a police escort back to her car, she did so.

“We weren’t able to get to the venue, but we ensured that the performer was not assaulted in any way and that they were able to leave the venue unharmed,” [police Lt.] Aguirre said.

People are crazy, they like to make a scene, that's none of their business. Nobody was forcing their kids to do anything. Sadly their craziness will screw their kids up. If you don't want kids to go to these events, then don't take them. Problem solved.

While I agree with you statistically, I consider it foolish to make a decision based on the set someone belongs to. I know pastors I would trust with my life and know of pastors I would not trust with anything. I know gay men I would trust with my life and ones I would not trust at all. I do not know any drag queens well enough to make that call. Of any group where I know a lot of members fairly well I know some I would trust with my life and some I would not trust at all.

I'm no doctor, nor do I play one on TV. I'm no Psychiatrist either. I'm not gay or any alphabet beyond m-a-n, nor do I play supporter for them online! My Experience with psychological disorders? I grew up in the US on the other side of the tracks than you, so I was exposed to plenty of people with psychological disorders, lol.

I do have kids, two sons. Neither one is gay ar TBZQ or anything like that. I've done plenty of reading stories to kids.

I know plenty of Christians who don't agree with homosexuals who are not sarcastic, biting, and judgemental about it. They dont harbour will in their heart and they dont want them dead. They also wouldn't even dream about killing one of them if they came over and talked to their children. Even though they think they are sinful they recognize their own sinful nature and realize its God's grace, not some inherent goodness in them, that saves them.

To go to a library where some drag queen is going to read a story to kids whose parents have brought them there, and block the way, and shout and get all aggravated...maybe there's something I don't get about how these people work, but it just seems like a waste of time and energy. If we're going to say that is within parents' rights to raise their children how they wish (and I thought that was a solidly conservative thing; the whole phenomenon of "parents' rights" bills is a conservative rallying point), then why doesn't that extend to taking them to a library to get a story read to them by a drag queen? If you ask me personally, I would say that there's no way I would take a kid there, or advocate that anyone else do so, but isn't that kind of where my rights would end so far as concerns this issue, in this set-up where parents can raise their kids however they want and people need to respect that and blahblahblah? You're aware that drag queens are still people, right? Underneath all the makeup and the stage names and whatever else, "Pickles" is a person. It's a very lousy and dehumanizing thing to make up scenarios in your head where you get to compare them to feces. I don't know what church you belong to, but you're not doing it any favors by posting stuff like this. Dehumanizing people is bad.

Christ our God was seen around Samaritan women and tax collectors and the like, proving that He was never one to shy away from getting His hands dirty for the sake of those the pious of society in His time on earth would've viewed as feces. That anyone who claims to follow Him would not have taken the rather obvious lesson from this that no one is beyond showing genuine care for feels wrong to me. Sure, maybe as a result you won't get any drag queen on you, but remember what Christ said about the Pharisees concerning their outward piety that concealed much inward hypocrisy? He called them on that account "whitewashed tombs" that appear outwardly beautiful, but inside are full of filth. The Christian that is 'right' but hateful towards others is kind of like that, regardless of whatever level of righteous anger they may feel is behind their approach to whoever they've decided is deserving of their bile. Heck, even the fathers of the councils which would go on to throw the likes of Nestorius out of the Church still addressed him as befits one of rank at the councils themselves, so you can't tell me that it's somehow asking too much that you treat people with a basic level of respect because you disagree with them.

I'm just trying to make sure to stay on topic. And that was about drag queens and story time for kids like they are trying to do all over.

They come to our turf and play like they are victims and we are mean. What a sense of entitlement they have! The way they think, I am supposed to go out of my way in love and politeness to them and give them every benefit of the doubt that they are wonderful tra la la people. I have to accept them or else be branded the bad guy.

That's compromising biblical principles to do that so we can not do that. When you start compromising principles, then they're not principles anymore. So in wffect, the gays and drag queens are trying to push their way in. They try to put pressure on me, but they can't.

I am comfortable being branded as the bad guy to them. I am not friends with the world. Gays used to be very meek and non confrontational and kept to themselves and so I never associated in any way with them because I did not have to. I dont hang out with witches either. But the gays are not like they used to be. Now they are pushy freaks with an overdeveloped sense of entitlment. (I think it was up until 1929 that being homosexual carried a death penalty. That's not that long ago. So the way they talk and push now is absurd so it is necessary to respond to them as another person. and not let their words stand without comment. All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do or say nothing...
