Hearing things like this makes me wonder what kind of experiences you've had. I've heard more lies from ex-sda members than I ever have from current members. But I guess everyone is going to have their own experiences. And I don't feel the "nothing is true" notion when it comes to my beliefs. Some things I can explain. Some things I can't. I'm fine with that. Entering into debates are pointless and more so than not, do not bring glory to God.

Doubt is what Satan wants from us. And doubt is what most questions cause. And since God has revealed to me, from His word, AND through the writings of Sr White, certain things in regards to, religion, and what I believe, I've decided to stick it out all the way right where I am.

;)

Yesterday I read the quote I posted above...

Stryder06 has a point here DOUBT. He says that he cannot answer certain questions and he is fine with it, entering debates is pointless and doubt is from satan.

I have given it some thought yesterday and wanted to share my ideas on the subject matter.

DOUBT

It is a general saying if we say doubt is what satan wants from us.

What kind of doubt are we talking about? any kind of doubt?

We can doubt that God exists, we can doubt that God loves us and we can also doubt that we are saved. I think we can all agree that this kind of doubt will bring us nothing good, in fact it can lead us astray.

But then what kind of doubt are we talking about here?

It is the doubt in EGW!

Now wouldnt it be wise for JW's or LDS's to say the same thing when someone asks them questions about their religion? I guess they have the very same saying.

I will not judge this kind of thinking cause I know that we are all on a spiritual journey and no matter the arguments, only the Holy Spirit can convict us of our error.

But again, what about that doubt in EGW?

Where does it come from?

It can only be a doubt in her being a prophet, in her being right on matters, in her being inspired at all times of using her pen...

But where does firm believe in her writings lead us? Yes. you are right in doubting the scriptures.

Imagine there was no EGW, would we still arrive at the same conclusions? no chance!

Imagine there was no EGW, would we still be abstinent? (not by personal choice but by church pressure I mean)

Imagine there was no EGW, would the vegans still be called the closest to GOd? and the meat eaters more animals than humans (kidding here)

I mean if I read the bible certain things are quite obvious and I can fully agree with it but if I am to accept EGW the normal, good things in life become obscure, I have to start doubting the bible and can longer take it face value, EGW turns certain things upside down, using lies and error (as I have proven over time) and if she is wrong in obvious areas why cant she be wrong in less obvious areas as well? The thing is, that we are dicussing ridiculous things here, EGW made blatant mistakes, contradicted herself, and yet we try defend her every word. But if I come up with a straight bible text, then it can no longer mean what it says but we need to twist and turn and bend it as much as is needed to match up with EGW.

Did EGW make you doubt the bible?

Do you have the feeling that you cannot read the bible on its own? Do you always consult with EGW and see how she interprets certain verses and then match up with her opinion?

I mean how can we truly arrive at conclusions that we get closer to God when we stop eating meat and become vegetarians and finally vegans? especially when the bible tells us that those who are weak in their faith eat only vegetables? is it now that the weak in faith are stronger? closer to God? Doesnt the bible imply that our diet has got nothing to do with the kingdom of God? And today it has become a major part (at least in the SDA). Do we have to doubt the plain word of the bible in order to arrive there?

Alcohol is dangerous, everyone will agree, but that is not the point, People in the OT times drank wine, yet we say its grape juice, EGW says that nowhere in the bible we find a text that sanctions the use of alcoholic wine. We find many of them, even from the lips of God who allows to buy wine and strong drink by means of tithes. Do we have to doubt that in order to believe EGWs statement? Do we again have to twist the bible to make it fit our agenda? wouldnt it be wiser to twist our agenda to make it match up with the bible?

Apart fromt that we find numerous examples of stuff that doesnt match up? Dont you think its sad that we to do this mental gymnastics and accepts EGWs word above the bible? It was meant to be a lesser light but has turned out to be the other way round. And yet people say both are in harmony.

What kind of an effect does this all have on us?

Where does it lead?

It can only lead into one direction; The bible as we know is not sufficient for us! We can only understand the bible if we consult EGW. Besides we more details out of EGWs writings, so much more details that the bible stories can only be seen as rough cuts while EGW has it all. Why should we even study the bible if EGW has the right interpretations ready? We should rather study EGW and take the bible as ancient source of EGWs inspiration while her writings are the real deal....

Doubt

Now we get all that stuff that we are supposed to do by EGW and yet this person doesnt get it right herself.

She gets addicted to vinegar (OK, sounds obscure)

She eats unclean meats for most of her life (OK, she didnt know... sounds even more obscure)

Every single dollar is needed and yet she buys and estate for herself and her family (I guess those dollars werent needed or maybe the believers dollars were needed for exactly that stuff as she claimed royalties for her books, so it was her books, well...)

But in the end we are forbidden to doubt that?

someone said there is no in-between, she either got it all right or all wrong. thats tough... I know there are so many opinions on her but its true, its hard to go in between because then you will find yourself constantly in confusion. If she was all wrong, well... the easiest way is to accept it as all right, and then you get the problems, cause in this case the bible was never all right... this again can cause some serious doubt in the bible or in exceeding gladness that God has provided for such a prophet who made it all right again...

... and yet we say that both the bible and egw are in harmony... do we even know what we talk about? are these implanted ideas by our pastors?
