Does anyone else remember the wonderful DooWop groups from the 50's and early 60's?. What wonderful music!! Groups like the Five Satins, The Preludes, The Chords, The Penguins, and so many more.

Then there were the "cover" groups such as the Diamonds, who re-record songs such as "Earth Angel" because some radio stations would not play the originals because the artists were black-sad but true. As an aside, that is why Pat Boone recorded Tuitti Fruiti to cover Little Richard's fantastic version. The cover is absolutely terrible!

TY! Yes is is--as a book says, doowop is "The Forgotten Third of Rock and Roll." One of the very first doowop songs came from nmid 50's--Sixty Minute Man--obviously banned from many radio stations because he tiitle aptly infers exactly what the song is about!

Did you know that all of the Motown songs that ever made it big, and all the artists that ever made a Motown name, ALL recorded with the same band?

Doowop is nice though. I play guitar and cover "Life Could be a Dream" (The...oh.....uhm...The...Denims..? Something like that).

"Life Could Be A Dream" was really entitled "Sha Boom." It was originally recorded by The Chords, but, as so often happened, it was covered by a clean cut white group called The Crew Cuts, who had the hit version, mainly because so many radio stations refused to play the original. Only a few DJs like Alan Freed were brave enough to play the original. In this case, the original is by far better.

Unfortunately I tend to compare it to the rockers of the 50's like Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly.

Yes, all of those songs are a throwback to the late 50's/early 60's, but they are not doowopish. Crocodile Rock sound a lot like the songs of Del Shannon or Lou Chirstie.

I have a good friend named Nick Enaco, who was one of the members of the Duprees back in the 50s-60s.

Good guy.

Here in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area, you can't swing a stick without hitting one of those old timers.

Bill Haley (although not doo wop), was from National Park, about ten miles down the road and several members of the Comets live in my town.

Another one goes to doowop heaven. James “Pookie” Hudson, lead singer for The Spaniels died yesterday from cancer. The Spaniels were best known their hit Goodnight, Sweetheart.

I have so far been unable to find this song, either in video or simple web page.
