seems to me you have the same problem. you consider your interpretation of the bible to be absolutely correct. and when the evidence contradicts your interpretation, you choose to trust your own interpretation over the evidence.

I began this thread to ask which verses in scripture support the concept of evolution. So far there has been only one verse presented: Genesis 1:11

You're new here, so I'll post this friendly reminder for you (since you apparently didnt actually read the forum rules)-
Forum rule 1.4 You will not directly state or otherwise imply that another member is not a Christian.

Your statement was directed at all of the Christians who believe in theistic evolution.

To keep yourself out of trouble in the future, I would recommend that you follow the rules.

Besides, the Bible never says that one must believe in a literal 6 day creation with man being literally created from dust to have everlasting life. Never.

On another note, where in the Bible does it say that Christians believe that the Bible is Jesus (the Word of God)?
Last I read, Jesus Himself is supposedly the Word of God.
Jesus and the Bible are two seperate things. Dont confuse the two.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that the Bible is the Word, and nowhere in the Bible does it say that Christians must believe so.

Oh yes, and evolution does not equal atheism (just so you know).

i suspect that you are not here to learn, but perhaps some lurkers are.

you imply that the image of God in man is physical. hence your error "man came from monkey". however if the image is spiritual then your objections are completely unfounded.

but i suspect that you don't really care much about logic or truth.

I've always found these Creationist/TE debates to be very interesting.

I'm sort of on both sides (as many atheist/agnostics are I suppose), where I agree with the Creationist interpretation of Genesis, but also agree with the TE's when it comes to their interpretation of the universe (the actual Creation, so to speak).

I really don't think the writers of Genesis knew anything about evolution, as there seems to be a lot of scriptural gymnastics needed to make it fit.

I really do not like Jacques Villeneuve, but I watch every Formula One race.
I don't agree with 30% or 40% of what he writes, but Millor Fernandes is still one of the writers I respect the most.

But on the case in question, is different.
It's not saying the Bible is false: is saying the Genesis is a fable, concerning the spiritual state of man. You don't need to believe a fox talks or wants some grapes to benefite from Aesop's tales, do you? The important truth remains, whatever the way you interpret that part

you do realize that the exact same verses you claim mean a 6 24 hr day recent creation also strongly claim an eternal 7th day Sabbath? which is the point of those verses, not a scientific account of creation week. yet 7th day keepers are certainly less than 1% of Christians. Even the Lord's Day Sabbatarians are an very small number. now that is real logic, to swallow the camel while straining at gnats.

The creation can't lie. If our interpretation of the scripture conflicts with what we actually find in the creation, our interpretation must be incorrect.

I 'believe' that Christ was the son of God. I accept evolution, an old earth, and mainstream science because of the dilligent investigation of the creation done by Christian and other scientists. Denying what the creation actually shows us about how God created denies what the bible talks about when it says that God is the creator.

How can you ignore what the creation says about God and still hold to the belief in God? That seems illogical.

I don't say I'm a Christian, I AM a Christian. I don't find accepting the reality of the Creation and accepting the divinity of Christ as illogical at all. You might find it so, but the more I become familiar with the actual creation, the direct work of God, I would find it illogical to ignore what is found there and not accept it.

Address, no. Speak against, no. So their's no reason you can't accept evolution ( up until common descent), and keep a literal interpretation. However, unless creationism stops attacking science and proclaiming that it is science, we won't be getting anywhere as creationists. I feel if creationism was to be promoted as a way to interpret what science proclaims without any contradictions, creationism would be much more widely accepted. The way things are now, the only stategy I see them using is pure stuborness.

The creationist stategy right now, is only causing more division in the christian church, not to mention it really isn't converting that many people. I feel that you can only accept evidence for the bible when you are already christian. You can't convince anyone to faith, it's immpossible. No human can.

If it is something like "I felt his presence, etc etc", you need to ask yourself: couldn't those feelings have been ordinary human feelings? Since Muslims/Boedhists/Hindoes/Jews/Atheists all have experienced the same?

If it is something like "because the Bible says so", the true problem starts. You can't offer Book A as proof for your believes, but at the same time accept the parts of that book that already FIT your believes.

Not because of feelings. Once you establish that relationship with God, and understand his commands, you don't nessicarily need the bible. However, the bible is a way of continuing to get to know God better. There are tons of times when I pray about something that I find the answer as soon as I open up the bible. God uses the bible to answer us.

edit: or maybe you did. But how exactly do you know that those "commands" come from God? How exactly does you flipping open a book constitute an "awnser" from God? Does God control your fingers so you open the correct page? Or does your human mind just read something, and do you interpret it in such a way that it becomes an awnser to your prayer? You are aware that human minds do a LOT of interpreting?
