  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does Tee Stand For Terrorist?

What on earth does George Soros have to do with anything? We're discussing an event as described by Stephanie Schwartz. Ms. Schwartz credibility is independent of Democracy Now, and has absolutely nothing to do with George Soros.

Do you form opinions based on facts or partisanship? When Democracy Now reported that George Bush had won the 2004 election, would you have denied that fact based on the organization that reported it?

Democracy Now reports news and conducts interviews. I challange you to provide one shred of evidence that discredits either.

By your rhetoric, which lacks any semblence of argumentation, together with your avatar and sig line, I can see that your stance is little more than "liberals suck." I welcome you to the forum, but I don't think you'll get very far with that approach.
If she had any crediblity - then why not go to an actual reputable news - NEWS organization or CNN even?

Ah, of course your right. The one thing that most every terrorist attack in the last 20 years has had in common is that they were all perpetuated by people of brown skin. In that case all people of brown skin should not be allowed on planes without covering themselves and should have no problem being surrounded and questioned by authoities because of said brown skin.

Also, if a Christian is ever responsible for a terrorist attack, would you then agree to my modest proposal of not allowing any Christian symbolism on planes and to be subject to questioning in general?
Skin color is only one of many characteristics they all shared in common. Skin color, age, ethnicity, religion . . . .

A terrorist attack is not a pattern.

I'll just say it, I think people that support racial profiling are stupid. They go on this premise that someone's skin color dictates that they are a terrorist, but let's flip the script. All white people are racists, just look at the research from the Southern Poverty Law Center. Of course my statement is outrageous, but it's also dumb logic...the same logic used to say that brown-skinned people are terrorists. My name is Arabic, should I be stopped and searched for that reason? Dumb logic would say yes.

Moreover what would you do with a Christian Arab who, of course, will read the Bible in Arabic? Should they not do that in a public place?

How do you know she didn't?

A person's credibility is not determined by who a person speaks to. I've never been interviewed by any news agency, yet I am perfectly credible.

Furthermore - and this is key - you have yet to show that Democracy Now is not a credible source.

Incorrect. Timothy McVeigh was a white Christian. The IRA are white Irishmen who support Catholics. The 1995 Tokyo subway attacks were perpetrated by Japanese. I could go on, but this is sufficient to show that all terrorist attacks are not committed by Arab Muslims.

In each of those cases (with the exception of the IRA), they were isolated incidents rather than recurring incidents that signified a pattern. Not to mention that McVeigh didn't commit his act out of religious reasons. Also, when terrorist acts are commited against people of the same ethnicity religion, it removes the possibility of profiling.

However if/when enough atrocious acts or crimes are commited by people with a common ethnicity and religion against another, it's human nature to start looking at people who share those attributes in a different light. It might not be right but you can't help it. If a man is mugged 10 times and every time the perpetrator is [insert ethnic group], that man obviously knows that not every [insert ethnic group] in the country is a mugger but subconsciously he will probably get a bit a worried every time he passes one on the street.

Agreed.

(I was only trying to stop the "all terrorists are Arab Muslims" rhetoric before it got any further.)

It's New York. They are significantly less free there than in other parts of the country.
This is just not true. In both these cases the t-shirt wearers were stopped by federal officials. New York not only has less fear than the rest of the country, it has substantially more Arabs. New York did not pick up the Fear Virus, spread by the administration, despite its personal experience with terrorism.
And btw, guns ARE banned in NYC, and nobody complains about it.

That's getting too specific. Why don't we just stop people with brown skin, or...say...if someone wears a tee shirt in Arabic.

A terrorist attack is not a pattern.

Ah...of course you are correct. Say Christians are responsible for a PATTERN of attacks.

Then you'd be okay with my earlier terms?

I'd help them search these terrorists out.

With respect, that does not seem to answer my question.

Maybe I should back up a bit though. First, do you feel the actions of the airline and the coast guard were appropriate.

Thanks :)

I think it is reprehenible and disgusting that grandmothers and babies are being searched when we know the profile of the people who commit these terrorist acts.
