I wonder, how much it costs us to care for others? As in, look out and when we have the time do something to support to another, not just in the Lord's name but because we want to make a difference.
Am someone who will always try to help, even if just giving a homeless man a kind smile if I don't have any small change but so many people seem to walk past.
There's theories of course that you shouldn't give money, but can you walk past and keep your head high?
Does it cost us greatly to be the good samaritan or friend to a stranger?

Many of our local homeless we drive past each day are within walking
one or two blocks of these two establishments:
-Staffing Partners: "Apply today, Work Today"
-Umos Food Pantry & Food Bank

Staffing partners has 4 old school busses
for transporting people to jobs.
Here is a person one block away.

I'm not saying that volunteering at a helping agency is a bad thing.

I try to help the homeless even with a coffee and a meal. The social programs look good too. Smart. I know of some people who have been homeless for years. Seems to be a choice. Another person, voluntary also, because the hostels we re full of people on drink and drugs.

I love stand up comedy, especially Luis CK. He made a point that he travels first class, and he sits first and then observes people pass by... soldiers, pregnant women, old ladies.

And he ones in a while imagines himself giving up the seat to a soldier, and the fact that he imagines it makes him feel very proud and fulfilled :).

Yes, of course, if you really care about suffering and plight of other people... then it will cost you.

It costs us to be Christian then?

I am tired of other people choosing where I am supposed to help. My job likes to volunteer my time and money on a regular basis (sponsoring a family for Christmas when I know that many of us are struggling ourselves)....all worthy causes but they take away from the time and money I have to give to individuals that need help.

Hmm,
it sounds like your job is trying to make a difference too, which is good for a business- at least on the face of it. But well done you for doing a lot.

Yes it costs to take care of people.

Perhaps this won't count because it is my parents I'm taking care of financially. Life is difficult for us in a 3rd world country, corrupt government, joke pensions. We came from poverty and right now, I'm only making 500 USD per month.

I give most of my salary to my parents. It leaves very little to myself, I couldn't a lot of things a lot of you may take for granted. I can't even start my own family.

Many in my situation end up neglecting their parents just so they can raise their own families. So I sacrificed having my own plus, we are overpopulated already, crime rates are very high, I'd be doing the kids I never had, a favor by not having them born in such misery.

Even if was not a Christian, I would have done the same thing. There are lots of Christians in my situation ending up neglecting their parents.

Hi Time
I don't know where you are, but it sounds like a really good example of what it takes to be a Christian.
It's sad that some Christians don't care about their families isn't it? You really do seem like a good guy, what great example.

Thanks Beth! But good I'm not. I haven't done my best, if I had, I could have got ourselves out of the situation entirely. I won't be dealing with our current situation in the first place.

But it's not a complete loss. I am learning so many things I could not have realized, otherwise. All I can say perhaps, the things that truly matter will cost everything you have.
