• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Because of things that have happened, and not dealing with them right my faince is depressed. Sometimes life is stacked up against him. One thing after another. He got an amazing job today. I am just wondering if depression ever goes away by itself. I know the answer I am just hoping for the best.

I think it depends on what is causing the depression. If it is cause by situations then if the problems were solved then i guess the depression could lift on its own...

But with most people there is some chemical aspect to it and other deep rooted believes and issues that need to be delt with before you are truly healed. I know that some people do get through depression without professional help but from my experience and other people I know it is better to get help than not.

Hope that helped and made sence...

Yes Pockleberry this does make sense!!!
I agree with what you have shared

Deep seated, or everyday issues must be dealt with to free one from depression. If not these issues grow within us and cause much worse situations and depression in our lives.
Lack of chemical depression (or Medical Depression)almost all the time need a replacement of these chemicals in the brain, to bring us to a 'level' place in our thinking and actions. Meaning medication is needed to replace these missing chemicals in our brains.

May you and your guy get thru this time. May it bring you closer together.

I agree with both Pockleberry and Wendy

Depression, needs to be treated like any other illness. If you ignore the disease, the symptoms aren't going to just go away. At best they can be covered for a while, but eventually, it'll be back, and usually worse.

There is several kinds of depression, so yes it is possible for depression to go away on its own. I too agree with the others.

From the sound of it though many things are keeping you fiance depressed, so he may need some counseling and anti depressants to help him get through this time. But that doesn't mean he will always be on meds. and then again counseling may be the only thing he needs. It just varies from person to person and only a licsened therapist and or psychatrist can really determine that. So I recommend he get help if he is willing....praying for both of you and God Bless You....Rush
