What earthly difference does becoming a Christian make? Should conversion be transformative or is it ok to remain a hypocrit till the day Jesus makes us perfect?

I ask this for 2 main reasons:

1) A few Christians I have met appear to have given up on the notion of effecting meaningful change for Christ. That the world and we are so bad we will just have to wait for Jesus to sort out the mess.

2) A great many atheists seem to be convinced of the hypocrisy of Christians who claim to be saved but do bad things.

I suspect that there are copy-cat conversions, in which people do what others tell them to do, and then they feel accepted and insist they are Christians. But God has not changed them (2 Timothy 3:13).

"But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him." (1 Corinthians 6:17)

If you become "joined to the Lord" so you are "one spirit with Him", you will be changed by His own almighty power of how His love is, in your nature (1 John 4:17). I understand this comes . . . more and more . . . with growth (Galatians 4:19) and correction (Hebrews 12:4-11).

But there are people who because of their own character are able to discover only the fakes, then say oh there are no real Christians. But if they found out that they had been given a lot of counterfeit dollar bills, would this stop them from believing there is real money ? ? ? ?

In my case, I have been mainly one to only criticize other people. But I could tell that I was not loving the way Jesus wants me to love. So, I needed for God to correct me to become able to get real in love. And I prayed for God to make me honest so I could see who is a real Christian leader and obey how God wanted me to be involved with real leaders. I needed much correction so I could become able to tell the difference. And then, I needed for God to change me so I could relate with His real example people and follow their good example.

But while I was mainly into judging self-righteously, I did not appreciate the real ones. They were gentle and quiet and humble, and I wanted recognition; and they weren't going to give me what they didn't care about :) lolololololol
