It's a different, and I would argue, misguided emphasis. The Reformed and Lutheran understanding of salvation actually creates space for secularism and humanism, which I regard as positive developments in our culture. If salvation is completely God's work, than creates a space for us to act freely in response, unleashing human creativity and potential in a way that is simply not possible where a religion dictates to human beings a path of salvation dependent on human works.

I'm a western person. Maybe you are not. That doesn't mean I am incapable of appreciating other cultures, but I don't see the point in making myself an orphan.

I think that's backwards in some ways. For instance, consider the concept of incarnation.
