I think the key thing is recognizing the difference between plain old nasty breath and a demonic manifestation is simply being sensitive for it to be revealed by the Spirit.

If we are uncertain, wait and meditate until it is revealed.

We shouldn't make something of nothing, and we shouldn't quickly dismiss it when it IS something.

It's harmful to accuse people of things -- if we sense a demon, we should deal with it. If we don't, we should make sure the people we ask for advice are not peers in their fellowship that could warp the story into something incriminating and unusual. Unless it's a dog, in which case we should give it a Milk Bone.

hahahahahahahaha....i almost peed when i read that!
Thank you for sharing. (-:

I suppose one COULD find a link between bad breath and evil spirits, but it wouldn't be the first explanation I would come up with.
There was a time in our church where a few people were smelling floral and sweet smells out of nowhere, that they attributed to the Holy Spirit. Like the vanilla cookies in the movie, Michael.

I was a little skeptical, but one day I was walking through the door of the empty sanctuary, and I smelled purple at the doorway. It wasn't anywhere else. No one had walked through there with perfume, or brought flowers in.

I was confused, so I found the woman who notices the smells, and she agreed. The thing that got me, was it wasn't a completely pleasant smell -- it was a mix of lilac, orchid, grape, and grape-scented marker pens. Overly sweet, pungent, and slightly acrid. I didn't sense that it was the Holy Spirit.

Watching the changes that followed in the church over the next few weeks, it seemed more of an angel-of-light, if not a hidden uncapped marker pen.

So yes, it's strange to think that smells would be associated. But then, our perception of smell takes place in our brains, after receptors are triggered. An entity wouldn't necessarily have to emit a smell for us to sense the smell.

The thing I don't understand about modern deliverance ministries is this. Why all the theatrics? Jesus simply told the demons to come out. He didnt carry on long conversations with them. I'm not trying to be smart eleck. I'm just curious.
Mmmm, interesting, but those theatrics you speak about are probably only 20% and the other 80% is the real healing and deliverance ministry.

I've seen demons leave just by authority, and didn't have to use His Name.

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

So what's the fun in watching that?

The more theatrics they do, the more glory THEY get.

Actually, I think it is mouch more sinister than even that. The bigger production that is made out of casting out demons, the more folks like you and I allow ourselves to be robbed of the same quiet authority over the spiritual world.

Everything's bigger in Texas. Including demon breath.

Totally agree.

Powerful insight.

Some friends who have been in deliverance ministries started reading so they'd feel more secure or knowledgeable, but the more they read, the more legalistic and dramatic they became. They started coming up with crazy rules about when they were restricted from ministering.... no solid scriptural basis, just extrapolated or twisted use of scriptures.
Many of the books present experiences and conclusions based on trial and error. This can easily slip away from the simple directives Jesus gave us -- to just get out there and do it.

I've seen demons leave just by authority, and didn't have to use His Name.
I saw a non-Christian practice exorcism -- they said that demons know people have authority over them. Instead of building doubt into me, it made me realize even more what the relationship is between humans and spirits. Jesus wanted people free, and told believers that they have the authority to set people free.

The demons trembled when they saw Jesus coming -- He was not just a spiritual person with confidence and Judeo-Christian authority over them, but God Himself in the flesh -- so much more authority. And we have this God of the universe behind us when we speak.
