  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The rendering of a proposed 36-story residential tower in my area.

I like modern architecture, and I can appreciate innovative design, but this doesn't do much for me. It looks like a giant stack of folded Chinese take-out boxes.

Good description you made there. I wouldn't want that funky looking thing in my town. No sir.

It’s a real eyesore. All jagged edges, kind of thing that will grate on most people I think

It looks pretty interesting. On a side note, an car add popped up that had a car driving across my screen right where the street in the picture was, so that was pretty cool.

My screen had an ad for headache tablets, appropriate after seeing that building.

I do. :) What first sprang to mind when I saw it are the foxgloves and other tubular flowers in our garden.

Since you're soliciting opinions on architecture, I'm curious about what you think of this house! It's in the neighborhood I grew up in, and was designed by a renowned architect for himself. Some love it, some loathe it. It is facing a panorama of the ocean and mountains, so the use of so much glass was obviously intended to soak in the view and light.

It looks like maybe the architect was inspired by Brâncuși’s eternal column. The original works better tho. This has too many sharp edges for my liking

That's cool. I'm assuming it's in CA. I really like SoCal mid century modernism. That reminds me a bit of the Alexander house in Palm Springs, though more elaborate:

One of my all-time favorites is the famous Stahl house in the Hollywood Hills. Talk about spectacular views...

Maybe if they painted each tier a different primary color...?

There is a practical reason for that. The outwardly projecting windows allow for a larger glass area, and will provide more light than flat windows set flush in the exterior walls. But that jagged profile just looks so bizarre.

Is that a robot with a red helmet eating a plate of spaghetti on the deck, or am I trippin'?

I think it looks a *little* better flipped upside down.
