• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone ever just sometimes feel void in their spiritual life. Like I feel like I have dealt with OCD for so many years. I'm off meds now and have been for over 2 years. I have just learned to except my illness and not let it get me down or depressed but sometimes I just feel so void, like I'm so far away from God..I'm not sure, I defiitely dont have a I dont care personality nor am I rebellious so why do I feel this way sometimes?

Babegirl,

First, I think your OCD and depression need to be treated with psychiatry and meds, IMO.

Secondly, it is not necessarily unusual for you to have a spiritual dry spell, especially if you suffer from mental illness. There are things that you can do, like make sure you have a prayer life, read the Scriptures, and be active in a Church.

Once you've done all these things, it may just be that your illness is a cross you must bear for the sake of your Lord. Dedicate your suffering to the Lord--ie., meditate on the suffering the Lord went through on the cross and use that to gain strength and encouragement.

But definitely use psychiatry and meds to treat your illness.

God Bless you,
Steve

Yes, I often wish that I could have a normal relationship with God. I am not in a period of spiritual dryness now, but I was for a few months that ended a while ago. Forcing myself to read the bible and stuff didn't help, but I finally found peace when I stopped fighting so hard and asked the Lord to help me. I didn't draw away from Him, but I also accepted that I was in a pit that I couldn't dig my way out of, and thankfully He helped me. Are you asking God to help you and to help you to feel Him more in your life?
