if there is a reliable Bible translation out there that does not change YHWH to "the LORD" in the OT, but just leaves it as is? (And, preferrably, doesn't transliterate it to Jehovah or Yahweh?)

If so, where might I locate a copy of it?

Interesting. Thanks. I was surprised to find out recently in the past few months that Jehovah is not a true name for God, but is a combinations of YHWH and Adonai. Interesting. There is also a Hebrew Name Bible that does the same thing.

Per the sacred name KJV... I looked it up online and it inserts the name into the NT as well (the Tetragrammaton doesn't appear in the Greek Scriptures per my information...) Thank you all for your responses, please keep them coming...

I think whatever you read is mistaken. I think I saw that, too. They're wrong. The only time they might use YHWH in the New Testament is if they are quoting the Old Testament and it has it in there.

Can you do me a favor, and check out the link I gave you? I thought I found exactly what you wanted.

It's not available in book form, only online. I believe you can download it, too.

Just wondering, why don't you want it to read "Yahweh" instead of "YHWH"?

Anyway, if this is a deal-breaker for you, The Schocken Bible retains the tetragrammaton, 'YHWH', but as far as I know, there is only the Pentateuch and 1&2 Samuel available thus far. Nonetheless, if you can pick up either of these volumes, DO! They are truly excellent translations.

If it is not a deal-breaker, both the older Jerusalem Bible and the New Jerusalem Bible translate the divine name as 'Yahweh' instead of 'LORD'. So, that's at least something!

Howdy Lissa,

Greetings. As well as the JB and NJB, an interesting translation is Rotherham, but my copy is too bulky to use as an everyday text and on Sundays. This also uses Yahweh in the OT only, and has a section explaining the reason for the adoption of this as a preferred translation instead of "LORD", Jehovah" etc. I am happy to see the vowels supplied to help me get a little closer to the pronunciation. The NT reveals Yahweh as the Father as Jesus reveals in Matthew 11:25-30 when he quotes and alludes to Psalm 8.
