I want to open a rescue shop
within a yard of hell.

All I know is that I want God to use me so that people who need God's forgiveness, His grace, His touch in their lives will come to know him.

I think our Catholic brothers and sisters are on to something on this one. Only God can see the heart. Only He can judge. We will be surprised by some of the people we get to spend eternity with.

i thought that was a general christian belief, not just a catholic thing

Doctrine number 11
We believe in the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgement at the end of the world; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and in the endless punishment of the wicked.

Doctrine number 11 ( simple version)
When our bodies die we ourselves go on living in a new and different way. At the end of time Jesus will judge all people. Those who have chosen him to be their Saviour will be happy to live with him as their King, for ever. Those who have not done so will always be unhappy because they chose what separates them from all that is good and lovely.

'The wicked', according to the 1925 handbook of doctrine, are simply 'those who die in their sins'.

The definition of sin, according to the modern handbook 'Salvation Story' is 'failure to believe and trust in God, and so to desire to be independent of him.'

Therefore the people who go to hell will be those who die in their attitude of unbelief and their failure to trust in God, wanting for themselves to be independent from him.

If someone dies who has not been born again, he will not go to heaven.

Sins of Omission or Sins of Commission?
I get a bit worried , in both revelation , and of Jesus jugding at the end of the world , those first to be excluded from eternal life with God were/ are those whom stood by and did nothing while injustic was taking place. If this is supposed to be an army why are we finding it so difficult to radically take on an challenge at all levels the injustice accross the world and in our communities today?

But there are so many ways in which we are fighting injustice and doing positive things:
We are campaigning against human trafficking, freer gambling laws, freer licensing laws. We were very much a part of the make poverty history efforts. We work intenseively with AIDS, the greatest killer on the planet. We work in the fields (literally) of sustainable development famrming, the digging of wells, refugee work, disaster relief, etc. We literally feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the prisoner in jail, befriend the friendless, educate the children and heal the sick.

Just what else would you like us to do - apart from preach the Gospel, that is?

I'm pretty much with the Major on this one. We are out there in the midst of the fight.

Who do you think are the 'wicked' who will be endlessly punished?

I don't know...honestly, I think it will be those who have caused a lot of suffering in this world, because of the love of the almighty dollar.

You know the owners of big corporations who pollute and exploit third world nations etc.
but then again, I am not God. If I were I would fry people like that.

Of course it's possible to truly repent...but do you really think people who do stuff like that actually have a conscious?

Well, the love of money is the root of all evil. But toi be quite honest I think your answer verges oin the political rather than the theological. While it may be true that those who worship the mighty dollar - leaders of corporations, etc - may be the ricjh men who find it hard to enter the kingdom of heaven - a bit like the camel and the eyee of a needle, you also have to say that a poor man who worships his weekly pay check and uses the money for evil or selfish ends has the same unredeemed heart as the rich man.

It is not the amount of money in your pocket, it's the sinful heart that controls the fist that grabs the stuff - whtehr it's small change spent selfishly, or lots of zeros on a bank statement.

Being poor is not a regenerating virtue.
Neither is wealth a sign of damnation.

And yes, there are planty of very rich people who have a conscience - just look at Bill Gates and Cliff Richard.

This is rather 'serious' for the Cybercorps isn't it?
Let me be a devil's advocate here:

God gave us freewill and therefore the choice of whether to accept him or not. Why then should he punish us for our choice?

Maybe we should look at it from another angle:

The options are accept God and spend eternity with Him, or don't and don't. He isn't the one doing the punishing, it those who choose to reject Him who punish themselves.
