Way to spin what he said. Why should we support policies we believe will harm America?

And if you supported policies that you thought would harm America, then you supported harming America.
1) I'm certainly not spinning. I'm trying to comprehend how he views the relationship between "Presidential Success and Country Success".
2) Please remember that to title of this tread indicates this discussion isn't about whether you support certain policies: It's about whether you want Obama to succeed.
The distinction is important and I'm hoping that is understood.

So if Obama was in favor of invading Canada and enslaving Canadians, you would be in favor of it?
So because I don't want Obama to enslave Canadians my argument is moot? Come on now. How about, instead of providing ridiculous hypothetical situations, we stick the the conversation at hand.

Lots of substance there. I was right because..................

Therefore you must want America to fail..........
I never gave any reasoning as to why I was right. My point was that I made the separation between my desire for Bush to enact good policies and my dislike of Bush.

This thread is actually a GREAT example of the irony of a thread like "Why have liberals gone hysterical" since clearly, people are so convinced of their belief in a free market (variant) system, they don't even desire to see his solution help America. Or worse, they view any ripple on the surface of America as being a threat to every ideal that is embodied and suggested by the name US of A.

So you were opposed to Reagan's deficits, you must REALLY be opposed to Obama's; I mean, they are so much larger % of GDP!

I do oppose them.

So if Obama was in favor of invading Canada and enslaving Canadians, you would be in favor of it?

Here, here to that!

#8 was posted by me, and i fully stand behind it.
The republicans can dissent all they want, but when they start praying for the President (and therefor the country) to fail, that is treason.

So we go from unpatriotic to treason. Way to go, you've shown yourself 10x worse than those who called the left unpatriotic for not supporting Bush.

Actually, on the world stage, center right is exactly what he is. Only in the skewed vision of the USA is he considered left wing at all.

Well, the world stage includes communism. Is he to the right of communism. Sure. But this is American politics. Who gives a crap what the he is on the world scale? Hell, Bush was a liberal if you wanna use the world scale.

Those of you who are hoping for failure - it's realy sad, because you will benefit by his decisions and actions, and you will have NO gratitude whatsoever. It's shameful behavior for an American.

Whether we will benefit remains to be seen.

And as most have said already, we want his policies to fail, not him as a president.

Just because the OP screwed up the question doesn't mean we can't clarify what it is we want. Especially when we're being called treasonous.

Who gives a crap? Well the people who intelligently discussion Socialism and economics and strive to use precise definitions: They give a great BIG crap.
Bush was not even close to a liberal on the world scale. Not even close.

When people claim that Obama is a Socialist, I wonder if they've spent any meaningful time in countries they would consider "socialist hell holes" (West. Europe, Scandinavia, Canada [to a smaller extent])?

You can't have it both ways. If Obama is center right on the world scale, then Bush was center left on the world scale. It's that simple.

I've been to Holland, it was quite nice.

That doesn't change the fact the Euro-style socialism is a a serious threat to America and our freedom and liberty. Euro-style socialism over here would look like Britain,,which is on the raod to authoritarianism and rabid loss of freedom, civil right and privacy.

For those that want Obama's policies to fail; translate that into what will happens to Americans. Let's say it is 2013, Obama's policies have failed, how do you envision America.?
After his inauguration, President Ron Paul acted quickly to reverse the ridiculous spend and print policies of the last 4 years. The free markets have reset themselves and are rebounding. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and a host of others have sailed off into the sunset. Greedy, corrupt CEOs who screwed everything up are now either in jail, south america, or 6 feet under. America is soveriegn, having NOT give up its independence to collectivist treaties that would make Americans submit to the political and economic whims of the rest of the world. Government has reduced its size and scope. The gold standard has been restored and our money now has value again. I could go on and on and on.

Good riddance. What oh what will we do without illuminaries like Whoopie Goldberg, Rosie ODonnell, and Susan Sarandon?

Both ways?
You aren't labouring under the impression that the world believes that Bush is further left than Obama, are you?

I've been to Holland, it was quite nice.
"meaningful time", means not travelling or passing through.

You are creating this huge monolith of an enemy with no real solid justification.

America is not, and never will be "like" Europe. Americans have created a vastly different culture than anything in Europe. To think that (boogey man) "Socialism" is going to express itself and have the same effect on US society is presumptuous to say the least. I mean, it's not as though America is EXACTLY like Brittain minus "Socialism". To suggest that (as you do), degrades the rich mileau of both countries.

I see no one has addressed this question. It’s easy to say, I want the president’s policies to fail and like Rush say it doesn’t mean I want America to fail but what does the president’s policy failures really mean for the country? What is the REALITY of the failure?

Just to bring this into some semblance of perspective:

AIG
2007 Employees 116,000

Bank of America
2007 Employees 210,000

GM
2007 Employees 266,000

GMAC
2007 Employees 26,700

CitiGroup
2007 Employees 387,000

Employee data from www.hoovers.com.

Total direct potential jobs lost 1,005,700

Note I did not include the company subsidiaries (which would probably come close to doubling the direct potential job losses) except for GMAC because surely if GM fails there will be no need for GMAC credit.

Those are the big guns; do you realize the ramifications of those corporations failing? The domino affect it would have on our economy. This is one time where the conservative theory of trickle down economics would really and truly work. So please tell me how it would benefit America to just let these companies fail? I really want to know where you envision America if we allow that to happen.
