Do you think that everyone is right in saying we should get are troops out of Iraq or do you agree with Bush? I'll post what I think after a few posts.
Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.
A bit of a simplistic question for the situation, but based on the current situation, I'd say we have no choice but to go the full route. Withdrawl now would either end up with the Baathists back in power, a civil war between the various groups, a theocratic take over, or an Iranian invasion.God.is.my.force said:Do you think that everyone is right in saying we should get are troops out of Iraq or do you agree with Bush? No its NOT true, the media is only trying to make the American people see the BAD side of things, they never report on the good. I have yet to see CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, CNBC actually report anything but this. 2 MORE Americans died today etc etc. You never hear this, The American/Coalition helped set up a hospital for the sick etc. Take it from someone who has been there...and that person is definitely not you.jhollas said:Personally, I think that if the coalition forces pull out, it will leave a massive power vacuum that will probably be filled with, as you say, a civil war for power.
However, God.Is.My.Force, the picture painted by the media at the moment is, rather unfortunately, scathingly true. The majority of Iraqi people are not in appreciation of American "help," mainly because it's not very forthcoming (i.e. Heavy-handed tactics).
Now, before I get a backlash from that statement, I will freely admit that American soldiers have gone to great lengths to help rebuild the country and to offer support to its CivPop, and that much of their problem out there is the result of lingering extremists. Yet, the overall situation must be examined, and as many Iraqis say, some things were better under Saddam.
I never said I had been there, thus your aggression is unwarranted.Mutt Dog said:No its NOT true, the media is only trying to make the American people see the BAD side of things, they never report on the good. This is a no win scenario for all involved. I am afraid too many lives are being lost on all sides. I am also afraid there will be a leadership void no matter what we do.jhollas said:Unfortunately, America is in a tight position. You guys have soldiers dying all the time, and public opinion is starting to swing about your staying there.
Realistically, America needs to stay. We Limeys certainly can't supervise the whole of Iraq, and the numbers of countries willing to commit troops to the region is severely decreasing. However, the Iraqi people are also crying out for you to leave, and I doubt they'll be happy with the US being a permanent presence for them.
