  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you think that everyone is right in saying we should get are troops out of Iraq or do you agree with Bush? I'll post what I think after a few posts.
A bit of a simplistic question for the situation, but based on the current situation, I'd say we have no choice but to go the full route. Withdrawl now would either end up with the Baathists back in power, a civil war between the various groups, a theocratic take over, or an Iranian invasion.

Personally, I think that if the coalition forces pull out, it will leave a massive power vacuum that will probably be filled with, as you say, a civil war for power.
However, God.Is.My.Force, the picture painted by the media at the moment is, rather unfortunately, scathingly true. The majority of Iraqi people are not in appreciation of American "help," mainly because it's not very forthcoming (i.e. Heavy-handed tactics).
Now, before I get a backlash from that statement, I will freely admit that American soldiers have gone to great lengths to help rebuild the country and to offer support to its CivPop, and that much of their problem out there is the result of lingering extremists. Yet, the overall situation must be examined, and as many Iraqis say, some things were better under Saddam.

No its NOT true, the media is only trying to make the American people see the BAD side of things, they never report on the good. I have yet to see CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, CNBC actually report anything but this. 2 MORE Americans died today etc etc. You never hear this, The American/Coalition helped set up a hospital for the sick etc. Take it from someone who has been there...and that person is definitely not you.

I never said I had been there, thus your aggression is unwarranted.
The reason that the media don't report things like hospitals being set up is because that is expected of an occupying force. Bringing back security, law and order, etc. is all part of what is expected of the coalition forces, so of course the media is going to say when it doesn't go right! It makes much more interesting news.
So tell me, why are the American soldiers turning Baghdad into a fortress for themselves against terrorist attacks, while leaving the civpop totally undefended from them?

Doesn't Kerry also want to stay in iraq? I believe I remember him saying so, but he changes his mind on what he says hes going to do, then I guess he could have changed his mind... anyways, either way, we will have soldiers in iraq. I have even heard rumors of making a US military installation over there, just like in Korea so we can keep an eye on things in iraq. I think that is a smart move.

Unfortunately, America is in a tight position. You guys have soldiers dying all the time, and public opinion is starting to swing about your staying there.
Realistically, America needs to stay. We Limeys certainly can't supervise the whole of Iraq, and the numbers of countries willing to commit troops to the region is severely decreasing. However, the Iraqi people are also crying out for you to leave, and I doubt they'll be happy with the US being a permanent presence for them.

This is a no win scenario for all involved. I am afraid too many lives are being lost on all sides. I am also afraid there will be a leadership void no matter what we do.

While the loss of lives is tragic, in some ways having our troops over there is a good thing. For one, we can see that the bulk of the War on Terror is now being fought over there which is much better than it being fought here. The battle is now between the terrorists and our troops, rather than our firefighters/policemen/ airline pilots/ civilians etc. The war on terror will be fought regardless of whether we are in or ever went into Iraq, at least now we have the battlefield outside of our country and the combatants are our military forces rather than civilian forces. Its not pretty, I think it sucks in many ways, but if keeps Al Qaedas from hitting us here even for only a while it is worth it, because considering how vulnerable we are here it is wise to tie them up elsewhere. We need to remember that Al-Qaeda and the other terrorist organizations are the true enemy and we cannot afford to let up our guard ever again.

Definitely. Troops are doing so much for people over there, from hospitals to school supplies, and all the good and hard work is being ignored, much like it is in Afghanistan.

The only problem is its a very small percentage of the population that is serving overseas while the rest of us sit back. Also the people of each nation are responsible for what the leadership does and should be held accountable. We should not be kicking in doors with marines and soldiers giving the terrorists a target to shoot at with a 500$ rifle but rather start dropping MOAB's on them until they get there act together or they are all gone. Its an option that will seem more reasonable when the price tag for this war bankrupts this country and people get sick of there sons and daughters dieing for a thrid world country that cant even get there act together.
