I'll side with those that say we should not spend so much time predicting the time of the second coming as we should prepare as if it were to be today. Continually prepare and when it happens, it happens.

People have been trying to put a date and time on it since Jesus first said he would return.

People state a lot of things to prove the time is near: rise in the amount of earthquakes, more people died in wars of the 20th century than centuries 1-19 combined, the gospel has spread all over the world (not completely true yet), and many others. Some, including my own church, teach that Elijah has already returned as has the temple ordinances and priesthood authority of old and that we only await the gathering of Israel. Well...I don't think much on any of this. I prepare every day to improve, to bring more people into the church, to do my temple work (when I can get worthy I'll do it and I'm working on that now and have been for some time), and do all I can to be ready when that day comes.

Runilo: Yo may have to find a thread on the doctrine of the trinity to answer that question. The Godhead are fully independant yet one complete whole! Brain frizzler i know...

Tulc. I agree that we are closer in agreement than originally thought and my day has started very well, thanks.

"We (the body of Christ) are sometimes the only "Bible" some people will ever see UNTIL they get saved, if all we have to offer is a quick Bible referance why should they pay any attention to something that (while important to us) means nothing to them?"...EXACTLY!

Notice i highlighted your word 'until'. In the context of my original post, for missionaries working in the outermost unreached parts of the world their lifestyle, and Gods will, brings people to salvation. However, two vital observations remain:

1. The missionaries would not be there if not for the maturation achieved through the bible.
2. For new believers its vital that they grow in their understanding of God through the bible. Whether reading it direct themselves, or hearing it indirectly from a spoken word.

I feel you are suffering from what i called 'Ghandi syndrome'! Ghandi is quoted as saying "if all christians lived like they preached and quoted, the world would be at peace". He was basically referring to the inconsistencies within 'christians' lives. In light of this, dont water down the immense capabilities of Gods written word to grow you as a person and develop your relationship with Him.

My fave verse: Jer 9:23 ; This is what the LORD says:

"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
or the strong man boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his riches,
but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me!

...The bible has a huge part in my knowing and understanding of Him.
