Yes he did. He was North American Indian and was an all around athlete who did his people and America proud. As I understand it, he was also a gentleman in every sense of the word. He wasn't treated very well by America at the beginning, but his family eventually honoured to national recognition.

I suppose all will remember Bruce Jenner, who won five gold medals at the Montreal Olympics. Well, he had just finished the race that gave him his 5th gold medal, when a distance runner from Haiti entered the arena...we was a few hours behind everyone else due to falls and stumbles along the way. Jenner waited, walked toward him, and shook his hand. He reportedly said, "You finished the course, and that is what counts." I thought it was somewhat magnanimous of Jenner to do that, and I never forgot it..nevermind his5 gold medals....he reached out to his fellow athlete.
