  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm sure this isnt accurate! If you remember it correctly or any other funny such rhymes please post them!

Just a reminder to all...this thread is for posting memories and chit chat about that, and we don't want to get too far off topic with the rhymes and jokes. :sigh: You can always start another thread for those.

birdfriend...thread starter.

Do you remember the first time you baby sat? I do. I took care of four children and got paid 50 cents an hour.

And one summer I got a $1.00 an hour for taking care of one little boy. I thought I was really in the money.

I wonder how much baby sitter's get paid now.

My first baby sitting job I got only .25 cents an hour, but as close as I can remember that was in 1950. It seems like my daughter paid a sitter around $3.00 a couple years ago,but not sure how much sitters get now by the hour. birdie

We used to sit around at night when it was very dark outside and try it scare one another. I won't tell any of the stories but one was concerning a thing known as the boogie man (I don't think he was a jazz artist) but I'm pretty sure he was big, furry and made from chocolate ^_^ ^_^ :yum:

Oh wow Larry, that really triggered a long suppressed memory!!
Very long ago when we went in the summer to visit my grandparents in Dallas we would sit around at night outside telling scary stories. My older brother could really tell a spiel and scare me out of my wits! I remember one that all of us have heard for years I'm sure that goes: 'Hes on the first step, hes on the second step, hes in the hallway' and on and on slowly building a crescendo to my fragile nervous system until he would scream, 'Hes gotcha' and lunge toward me! All the neighborhood kids would scream only to repeat the same ole story with the same 'startling' finale!! So hilarious to think of now! The lightning bugs would be flittering as it got dark and it was truly something out of a horror movie for me!! Poor little kiddo!! LOL

Ahhh lightening bugs... what fun they were to watch.

Hi Hackett...Oh, yes, thanks for sharing this wonderful memory. When I was a kid growing up in the mid-west we used to collect them putting them in jars. They gave off glow like a weak flashlight. Then we moved West where there were none. And everafter when referred to people out there called them fireflies.

OK, do you remember when your pocket money was 5 shillings a week?:D

I don't know how dollars compare to shillings...but when I was in High School...if I had $2.00 I was rich.

I don't ever remember having my own money to spend before High School.

I loved the Perry Mason T.V. series. Before that I used to read the Perry Mason case mystery books by Eryle Stanley Gardner. Night before last there was an old Perry Mason show on the Hallmark channel. This one was in color and one of the two hour specials Raymond Burr made a few years before his death. And, of course, Della Street, was at his side. Help me out here...the actress who played Dellla..was Barbara (can't remember the last name.) ??? Thanks! ;)
