  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pogo sticks were quite popular then althoughh they had their ups and downs they were actually a lot of fun.
Larry you are so funny! I remember having one of those when I was a pup but I could get one or two bounces in before crashing.....not a pretty sight! ha!

LOL, while the Hula Hoops went round and round!!

Very clever! lol.....I was not very coordinated with this either (like the pogo stick) but I loved it and played with it a lot. I used to spin it around my arms and once in a while, my legs. I still see them every once in awhile.

Believe it or not I used to be able to pogo without any hands and keep my balance. Today walking and keeping my balance sometimes equals the challenge.

Hula Hoops were very much the rage. There were contests all over the place. I remember kids twirling several around their waist. I think there were contest to see how many you could keep going at one time.

Did anybody get hooked on "Rubics Cubes"!!

This is a fun thread...I am enjoying reading the memories. As for A&W we still have one here and go there pretty often.

I remember going to a place called the Stop and Go where they had the best curley fries and root beer.

Does anyone remember when Barbie's first came into use?

And Nancy Drew books?

I love to cook and my sis and mom were both great cooks. I still like eating 'in' better than 'eating out'...well most of the time...anyway... The Stop and Go I meant was a drive-in restaurant, shakes, hamburgers, etc...but I do remember the convenience stores you mention too.

My favorite Nancy Drew books (which sometimes I still read because I save them for my granddaughter...were the first ones written back in the 30's...and I loved their fashions then too. They are shown in the illustrations on the cover and inside the original books. Applewood publications has a facsimile of them out now. Really nice.

From one Nancy Drew fan to another. I passed my books to my neices then my daughter...they became pretty rag-tag. How about Trixi Beldon?

Someone mentioned the smell of freshly popped popcorn in an earlier post. I can remember the bigger stores in our town having that smell. Kresge's Dept store was famous for that. Used to go in there to see the little turtles in the pet department downstairs.

I can recall the parking meters being in front of the stores so parallel parking was always necessary...no pull in until the separate parking lots came into being. Therefore the parking test to get your driver license. :help: I din't do well on that the first time.
