  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Monkey Wards, as I think I've said before, was the first ultra modern store in our town. Several floors with 'escalators". I don't remember the wire above the shoppers. I do remember some stores using the air tubes to transport metal or plastic capsules from dept to dept. I thought those were obsolete until recently the banks in our town are using them at the drive thru.

They used to have fishing contests in the store. They set up a huge tank like a big swimming pool stocked with fish and if you could catch a marked fish you got some sort of prize.

This was a big store in our town too...I was very fascinated by the shoe clerk...he or she always measured the foot with that metal thing...LOL...don't see that happen any more.

I remember those metal things that they measured your feet with. There was also a machine that I think xrayed your feet while in your shoe so you had to make sure to clip your toenails before going to buy shoes.

Now can you imagine what we would do without Wally world and Sam's. The first big chain like that in our area was Rinks.

Lost a good friend today, one of nearly 50 years....

Or was that 40?

Oh, well. He gave me some personal information and asked me to forget I'd heard it....

I forgot to forget!

Ah....yes... :sigh: :sigh: My first date was to a school dance . My mom took me to the best flower shop to buy something for my date. She drove me to her house, must have had the heater on it seemed like about 120 degrees in the car. Went to knock on the door with my knees rattling together. Her very lovely mother opened the door and was shocked. As I stood there flowers in hand she kindly and emarrassingly explaind that my date J.... R...... had gone to the dance with someone else :o :o

Went to the dance anyway and had a great time.

I am really glad to hear that. I know all teenagers have a few knocks along the way. I was so fortunate to have a great high school experience. The sock hops and soda shops were such fun.

Now that took courage and strength of character! The girl really lost out on a great thing, not to mention the flowers! Good for you that you still had a fun evening!! Usually takes a while to learn that our worth doesnt depend on others and/or how they treat us!

Quite comical how we often adjust our emotional shields with age. Even embarassing situations rolled off like water from a rain spout at that age.

I did like the sock hops and watched American Bandstand very often to learn the latest moves :)

Did anyone have photographers come around with ponies for pictures riding the little horse?
