Just make sure that whatever school you choose that they are accredited. This is really important- it's the only way your degree will mean something in the real world.
This isn't always the case. If you try to transfer to another college, or if you apply for a graduate program somewhere, a lack of accreditation can be a BIG problem. Many schools will not accept credits from an unaccredited college, so you would have to virtually start over from scratch. Accreditation can also be an issue in a profession where you need to get certified, such as a teaching or education field. On the other hand, most businesses don't care if you're accredited or not as long as you have a good education.

I have heard that even Harvard is not accredited, but I'm not certain if that's true.

Harvard is indeed accredited.

Leah is right though. Make sure the school is accredited, and its not just for reputation and such. A school's accreditation status affects its eligibility to participate in federal financial aid programs.

Thanks for clearing that up about Harvard. I was a little skeptical, but I had never checked it out. Interestingly enough, that was told to me by a recruiter from PCC who was trying to convince me that accreditation was not important.

I didn't think about federal financial aid, but that's a good point. I know that BJU and PCC do not accept any federal or state funding, including financial aid.

 I had never considered that some Christian colleges would have rules like this! I am astonished. I go to a Cal State school. If I were to transfer to PCC or the like I'd be too "liberal" for those schools. Wow, and I thought I was too modest and conservative as it is.
So true wow I'm going to a Catholic college -- i dont think i would survive at BJU

I looked into PCC a while back. I didn't know about all the rules there just the ones requiring "casual" suites. That was enough.

I'm from Alaska. There is no way in hell I'm going to be wearing any sort of suite, casual or not, in Florida. I'ld die.

I can't believe a university can make these kind of rules anyway?

If you made these in Australia - heads would roll - seriously!!!

And I'd be kicked out in a heartbeat - I own one velvet skirt - the rest are too formal... I live in jeans - and I continually get comments about how feminine I am...

(rolls eyes at the ridiculous)
I will never understand how a UNIVERSITY (ie not a school) can enforce dress codes...

Hey, I am looking into some various colleges right now, and Pensacola Christian College happens to be one of them. Thanks so much!

That is right near Kent Hovind's ministry! That alone would spark my interest in attending there. :p

I'm assuming these schools are privately funding. They receive no money from the state or federal governments. Therefore they can do what they please. Obviously it works for some. They're still in business.

I think these strict schools have good intentions, but I have to wonder, are people following the rules because they think it makes them better Christians? Or are they following the rules because of Gods conviction? And not someone elses convictions, but their OWN convictions.

These strict schools are missing the mark. Which is kinda "ok" because we all miss the mark sometimes. But, I think the rules are sending a wrong legalistic message. If this is what God really wants I think the school needs to be focusing on building a relationship between students and Jesus and let JESUS change students hearts. To often rules and legalism do not help people grow in the Lord. It's a change of heart that only God can do that truly brings repentance and change. Not some man telling you to do it. I can't remember which college, but the "Harvard" of Christian colleges recently changed their lifestyle statement to say something like (and don't quote me), we agree to live a lifestyle according to the Word of God. They dropped a great amount of rules they had listed (from my understanding). Christianity is a change of heart that only comes by knowing God and seeking God.

All the rules send the wrong message that Christianity is about following rules and breaking the rules makes you a bad Christian. Letting God deal with people is what truly brings change.

Very well put. :)
