This is to refresh everyones memory AGAIN regarding fourmn specific Rules!

Only Baptist/Anabaptist members are allowed to debate threads to discuss various doctrines to do with their own denomination and other denominations (including the Catholic church), as long as they are within our rules.

3) Non-Baptist/Anabaptist members (eg. Catholic,Charasmatic, Weselyan, Lutheran, etc... members) can only post fellowship posts here or posts to ask a question regarding Baptist/Anabaptist doctrine. Once the question is answered, there shall be no debate over the answer in this forum by the Non-Baptist/Anabaptist members. Any debate posts by Non-Baptist/Anabaptist members will be deleted or moved to the appropriate forum. In other words, only Baptist/Anabaptist members can debate here.

Make no mistake warnings WILL be issued!

WE ARE BAPTISTS, not Protestants, not reformed, just Baptists. Protestants are people belonging to churches that came out of Roman/Latin Catholicism. Reformed churches are those Protestant churches were in protest against Roman doctrine and dogma, as opposed to Arminian doctrine. Baptist churches were not born out of Romanism. We did not spring from the Protestant Reformation. While we appreciate and profit from our Protestant brethren, past and present, who are reformed in doctrine, we trace our history and our doctrine not to the Reformation, but to the New Testament. The first preacher of this gospel age was not John the Reformed, but John the Baptist!

Do you agree with the above?
The Term Protestant: Original Use

PROTESTANT: One of the German princes and cities that supported the doctrines of Luther and protested against the decision of the second Diet of Speyer (1529) to enforce the Edict of Worms (1521) and deny toleration to Lutherans.

Since I wasn't there, I guess I'm not Protestant. LOL

Seriously, as the term came to used for most of the denominations that grew out of the continental Reformation, I guess in some sense I am. I am happy to share in that heritage. But like others have said, "what's in label?"

Happy to be "just" a Christian!

ive got a question.. if some Baptist are Calvinist how can they be Calvinist and not be protestant?
That's a silly question, calvinist may rightly be called Augustinists. All calvin did was write about Grace, the five points were the product of Synod of Dort. That's like saying some baptists are arminian so they must be protestant.

For the record, the Catholic Church is protesting our teaching which is found in the Bible and the Bible only. The Eastern Orthodox are right in calling them, 'the first true protestants.'

Calvin was a reformer and yes a prot, but the doctrines on Grace that Calvin wrote about didn't make them his. God gave us the Bible and the doctrines called Calvinism is nothing more then the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that being: Grace is Free for those who believe.

None of these labels matter. I'm 400% sure that when I die, I won't be able to charge sin to my Anabaptist Credit Account.

 In a nutshell. Do you think God is going to ask what denomination we are when we stand before Him. All He's going to look at is what we've done with Christ. Are we in Christ or outside of Christ.
I agree with you but there seems to be a train of thought out there that we need to be part of a certain church here, in order to be in Christ. I think not. God will judge us by our hearts.

In a nutshell, God will look at what you have done with and for Christ...and knowing who you are and who you fellowship with will play apart in how you act out your life. If you roll with luke warm Christians then you'll probably be influanced by them and be luke warm yourself. So knowing who you are in Christ and what you believer is important.

PS: I'm looking for the Baptist response, thanks.

I think He is going to care that we accept, worship and love the one true Jesus. I certainly do not believe that their will be "denominations" in Heaven.

God Bless,
Frankie

Can we get back on topic? :sorry:

I just wanted to know if Baptists in general consider themselves part of the reformation or a church that existed before the reformation. (Sorry, I tend not to express myself well on the internet...sorry for the confussion.)
