Is it possible that you could be wrong about your God?

Do you think I haven't asked myself this? Do you think other Christians haven't either?

Hide away? Do you never wonder why you are only able to answer those accusations with nothing more than 'Faith'? according to you everything in the Bible is oh so true but all you have is 'Faith'.
Someone told you there is a God, they gave you a Bible and left you to create your God from your own imagination.

You do not know what my life has been like, or why I have chosen to be a Christian and follow Jesus. If you think it is just because someone gave me a Bible and left me to "create my own God", you are sadly mistaken. However, it is an opinion you are free to hold.

I will not try to convince you otherwise. You have clearly made up your mind about every single Christian in this world. As this is the case, there is nothing more I can say, and continuing to do so is a waste of both of our time at this point.

I am more than willing to discuss my faith with those who have honest questions. You have admitted that you do not, but that you are here because you think Christians hold beliefs that are "ridiculous" and you are trying to get us all to see that.

As this is your motivation I am respectfully declining to respond to any more of your accusations and opinions.

I wish you all the best.

I suspect the claim was more that Christianity was like a mental illness... not that I agree with it.

Something you claimed was impossible... a claim I disproved.

Mental illness can be spread from person to person -- which is pretty much the textbook definition of "contagious."

Granted, the analogy is not a perfect one, nor was it meant to be. My only purpose was to show that delusional or psychotic behavior.

Is it not a goal of Christians to show others the way to Christ and to "make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19)?

Simply sitting in the same room with someone with the flu may not make you sick... sitting in the same room with someone with the flu who goes out of their way to cough and sneeze on you at every opportunity, however...

It doesn't have to spread "like the flu..." to be contagious -- it just has to spread.

Again, if you believe that Christianity fits the profile of a mental illness you had better back that up beyond question. Not even in the academic or medical world has this happened.

Of course, you are free to believe that it's that simple. It does make for a rather convenient way to dismiss Christianity. If this is your aim that's fine. I won't say anymore about it.

Blessings,

Then why do you seem to be afraid to answer?? why oh why do you never answer a question, have you been trained not to answer questions because it certainly seems as if you have?

Search for my posts on these forums, I have answered many questions to the best of my ability.

You have admitted that you do not have any questions, and that you are not here to ask any. You have admitted you are here to convince Christians that our beliefs are ridiculous and that we are all wrong.

I will honestly, and to the best of my ability, do my best to answer those who truly do have questions, but it is completely understandable and sensible not to keep going around in circles with someone who already thinks they know everything about the Christian faith and all Christians everywhere.

This is what I am respectfully declining to do.

Blessings,

Christians keep telling everyone that the Bible is true but they have produced nothing to show that it is, it's a book of stories that have no basis in reality, what else would you expect? do you think the Koran is a book of fairy tales or is the Koran true? The US is predominantly Christian so what good would it do to criticise the Koran? who would care? would you?

People who say they have been abducted by aliens are treated with contempt because all they have is anecdotal claims just like religious people, all they both do is talk a good story, 'look around at the trees' is not evidence of a God, all it's evidence for is trees.

Have you even looked into the acheological finds that prove the bible true?

http://www.provethebible.net/T2-Verac/C-0401.htm

Now this is just one link but I could give many more.

And "look at the trees" is way over simplifying the idea. When we say look at nature we mean look at everything in this universe and in nature including the things you cant see with the naked eye and see how it all works together to allow life to exist as it does and it shouts the glory and power and majesty of God. It's all there to see if we have eyes to see and hearts that are open.

But as Paul said in Romans men can look at that and worship the creation instead of the creator.

Again, if you believe that Christianity fits the profile of a mental illness

Did you not read the part where I said I didn't believe that?

Or did you not care?

Kansas exists.
Girls named "Dorothy" exist.
Tornadoes exist.
EF5 Tornadoes capable of uprooting a house exist.

Therefore, geography, meteorology, and history all prove that The Wizard of Oz is true.

You could say the same of the Harold Potter books.

Of course I care. My points were in response to links you shared and suggestions you made the perhaps Christianity could be a shared psychosis.

I'm not "not-picking" at all. The claim was that Christianity is a mental illness. If it is, it has to be a contagious one. Therefore that is what I was addressing. The example you gave of a shared mental illness does not explain the many people who have become Christians. Instead, if Christianity is a mental illness it would have to be a kind of mental illness that you can get simply by reading or hearing something or from just being around other Christians. Mental illness is not passed around like the flu. That is what I was saying.

If you're referring to me my claim was NOT that Christianity is a mental illness. I asked how you could determine that it wasn't a delusion. A delusion is not necessarily a result of mental illness.

Do you likewise care about the Quran? The book that holds the religion thousands of militant Muslims are killing people for not believing? I would be far more concerned with what is coming out of much of Islam, in terms of its violence, than with what the Bible tells us we must do.

A book that tells us to "kill the infidels" may be a book far more worth questioning. In my opinion anyway. And yet it doesn't seem to be happening. Instead, for some reason, everyone is being told to believe Islam is the religion of peace.

The Bible is still more hated than the Quran. That is quite telling.

Their horrible book is a bit more horrible than our horrible book? That's a defence?

Well, think about it. Someone criticises the Bible. In response, you go to a book that you consider worse.

So, your defence in this instance, is not to uphold your own book, but to find one that you consider 'more horrible'.

Where did I err?

Perhaps you can go back and read the entire discussion. I wasn't saying that people shouldn't question the Bible, but I was asking why the same is not done regarding the Quran. Have you been on Muslim forums questioning Muslims about their holy book, the same way you are questioning Christians here about the Bible? If not, why? Why do many people have more problems with the Bible than the Quran? Islam is the religion that is responsible for the majority of the violence perpetrated in our world today, (violence that has spread around the world, including to western nations) that alone should lead to questions about what exactly is being taught in their Quran, don't you think? In contrast to the Quran which openly calls for the killing of "infidels", Jesus does not teach violence, He teaches us to love our enemies.

“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven."
(Matthew 5:43-45)

So, any Christian who does not follow this command is not acting as a "true child of our Father in heaven."

I think it is very important that we are willing to look at where the greatest problems are coming from. This doesn't mean the Bible can't also be questioned, but why is the most violent religion and it's book almost completely ignored? The truth is, no one wants to talk about it, we are far more concerned with being politically correct. And this concerns me, this is what I was saying.

Is it possible that you could be wrong about your God?

Psalms 10:4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him, in his heart there is no,room for God

Psalm 14:1 A fool,in his heart says there is no God they are corrupt their deeds are vile. There is no one who does good.

Romans 1:28 so they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God so God have them over to a depraved mind so that they do what ought not to be done.

No we are,not wrong about God. We are a chosen Generation a Royal Priesthood and Holy Nation he has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.

We are saved by his blood, justified by him and sanctified and made righteous by him not by anything We have done or deserved but because of what Christ has done in us.

We are no fools. We believe in God and his son Jesus Christ. And we have a personal, relationship with our Father who is in heaven. And you can challenge us all day long and that relationship will, not be shaken.

It is you who are mistaken. It is you who, have been led astray.

Way to simplify! Archeology has proven that the bible is true and the people in the bible existed and are true history. I am assuming that no one is claiming that the Wizard of Oz is true history. I don't think the author even claimed that. The bible is history and archeology has proven it over and over again.

Now I know I'm your mind it doesn't prove every single story in the scriptures. But the veracity of the bible has been proven true even when people said it wasn't and later it was discovered that it was.

Hmmm.... I'm missing the part where Jesus and the apostles told us to,go out and enslave and kill people who refused to believe in Jesus. Where is that in the gospels and in the apostles, letters again?

The whole point of the gospel is to provide salvation not to kill them.

So what? Is truth determined by popularity?

I don't think the author even claimed that.

Nathaniel Hawthorne claimed The Scarlet Letter was true -- shall I use that as an example instead?

The bible is history and archeology has proven it over and over again.

The Bible contains history... there's a difference.
