I don't think you understand. Once you know something, you can't "choose" what you believe about it. For instance, once you learn 2+2=4, you can't "choose" to believe it's 5.

But you don't "know" beyond any doubt that God DOESN'T exist. It's not the same as knowing a mathematical equation.

And yet, you would posit that billions who follow Islam and Hinduism, or the Ancient Greek, Norse or Egyptian gods are wrong or deluded or misled. How could this delusion 'infect' generations of people around the world?

You pretty much nailed it. That's the truth of the bible. And yes it was physically written by men inspired by God. If you Look at the coherency of the word over the large,time span of its writting and the number of authors its very difficult to see otherwise, unless of course you don't want to.

If those followers are not deluded, how do you explain that billions of people fervently follow (much more so than most Christians) a belief that you would consider to be wrong.

By the way, the position of being deluded is not necessarily the result of mental illness.
