Wouldn't it be simpler for President Trump to just not acknowledge Acosta, by not allowing him to ask a question?

Let him or anyone keep their Pass, just don't call on them to speak.
I was prepared to make a suggestion going the other way and grant press passes to Info Wars, the National Enquirer, The Onion, Babylon Bee, etc and allow only them to ask questions.

Whatever faith I ever had in democracy dies a little bit more each day. May as well have a few laughs while the ship is sinking, I suppose.

Have ONLY Babylon Bee reporters ask questions -- nobody else -- and they must ask the questions in unknown tongues...
Don't be silly clearly The Onion should be the only recognised reporters.

When did the media become so powerful they became in control?

I'm not sure... When was the first amendment written?

If anybody's curious, here are the rules:
White House issues new rules for reporters at Trump press conferences

*ahem*
InfoWars, ‘Alt-Right’ Fake News Site, Gets White House Press Credentials

IIRC, it was a one-day/short-term pass and not a long-term one like what's given to journalists from traditional outlets. But still...

Oh good, that's a solid starting point. Now we just need to make it permanent.

1) A journalist called upon to ask a question will ask a single question and then will yield the floor to other journalists;
2) At the discretion of the president or other White House official taking questions, a follow-up question or questions may be permitted; and where a follow-up has been allowed and asked, the questioner will then yield the floor;
3) "Yielding the floor" includes, when applicable, physically surrendering the microphone to White House staff for use by the next questioner;

That would be acting professional.

I agree. We should expect more from members of the press. After all, they are the most important people in the world.

Not like some lowly President of the United States.

I'd be happy if we could get a press who wouldn't accept a non-answers across the board and be willing to challenge our leaders to actually explain what they said. All leaders. Right now a politician can tell the press that rain comes from Venus and they wouldn't directly challenge it. They'd have to be coy and beat around the bush. I'd love for someone to just call it a lie to the person's face and ask them to explain themselves.

I love seeing people wholeheartedly cheering on the trampling of the first amendment while claiming they love the US Constitution.

The first amendment gives reporters the right to write news stories.

But does it actually give them the right of access to the White House or anywhere else?

That's pretty much how it used to work, as I recall.

Seems like a valid point.

does this mean reporters can call the President a "rude terrible person" or "fake news" like he does? :scratch:
tulc(asking for a friend) :sorry:

I see no reason they would stop doing that sort of thing now. The rules might mean that during a press briefing or press conference the President could simply move on to another reporter instead of allowing a reporter to turn it into the reporter's press briefing or conference but it certainly would not stop that reporter or that network from the continual parade of negative personal comments that they have been engaging in outside of such briefings or conferences.

I love seeing people wholeheartedly cheering on the trampling of the first amendment while claiming they love the US Constitution. It's clear they love the cult of the leader, not their country.

I must have missed the part in the Constitution that requires the Executive to give special white house access to reporters from cable networks. I cannot find the clause that requires the President to have press briefings or press conferences and allow specific media outlets to have special privileges for their reporters to ask as many questions as they please without ceding the floor until those questions have been answered in the way the reporter decides is satisfactory to that reporter. The First Amendment does specifically say that Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of the press. Search as I have, I cannot find the clause that requires the President to be obey the press or to passively stand by while a specific reporter makes a speech disguised as a question.
