The thing is I instinctually do not stare back.

Ehhh, depends on who you are. Phantom did for the longest time before we finally met face to face. Whenever I would look back, he'd look away . But now, I don't mind it. If you're someone who's NOT Phantom though now, I don't like it too much.

Depends on the kind of staring he's doing. If it's this incessant, creepy stare... mouth slightly open, blank look on face... Then I'd be creeped out a little, lol. But if it's an occasional glance, we make eye contact, and he quickly looks away out of embarrassment because I caught him looking, then it might be kind of cute. I know when I have a crush on someone, I can't help but look at them or 'notice' them every time they walk by. Then I blush out of embarrassment when he catches me looking.

If you never stare/look back, my guess is she would think you're not interested.
