Do Genesis literalists also take the rest of the Bible literally?

How much of the Bible do you take literally?

  • All of it, including the examples below

  • Some of it, including Genesis, but not the examples below

  • None of it, the Bible was written in a different cultural and social setting

  • Most of it, but neither Genesis nor the examples below

Nope. You read wrong. God actually can't lay a finger on this world.
It's contaminated and the two are incompatible.
He could send His only Son here for a visit.
But that's physically as close as God can get.
Based on what, exactly? I'd like to see supporting verses please.
The only place God is not is Hell.

I thought he could do anything.

What???
There are lots of things God can not do. For example we are saved though the Blood of Jesus. So apart from the Blood of the Lamb you can not be saved. There is ONLY one way and that WAY is Jesus.

Funny how powerless God becomes once the fundies get their hands on Him, isn't it?
He is only powerless to do things your way. The reason is because He is God and you are not. He has no problem running the universe. Because He does not try to do it the way you would.

And here I thought Jesus was God -- but no -- he is, instead, the one thing keeping God's great plan from blowing up in His face... yet again.

Do you know what the word omnipotent means?

Revelation 19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

John 21:
22Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. 23Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

Jesus was saying that if He gave the word that John would live until He returned. Likewise, if He said to a thief on a cross that on that day he would join Christ in Paradise, what is it to you? We are saved through grace, but if God wanted to reach out and pluck someone from the gates of Hell, who could stop Him?

God is limited only by His will; not by any other force.

"If I make my bed in Hell, behold, thou art there." (For people who like the KJV)
Hell in the Old Testament was different from Hell in the New Testament.

I'm not sure how a KJV-onlyist would come to that conclusion, but, in fact, most modern translations use the word Grave in the verse I referred to. The Hebrew word is "Sheol" and apparently means grave.

The Hebrew Bible is remarkably devoid of any indication of an afterlife. There is a hint of it when David is mourning the death of his first born son by Bathsheba. One of the prophets (Isaiah?) seems to indicate a finite amount of punishment in an afterlife.

So given that the OT doesn't reference Hell, the concept in the NT is certainly different.

When did God relocate it?
Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Captivity = Paradise
