We know that John the [fundamental independent] Baptist was the last of the Old Testament prophets, and that prophecies ceased when the Scriptures were completed in AD 96.

Thus anyone claiming to be a prophet, as Muhammad or Joseph Smith did, would be considered a false prophet in our eyes.

No, of course I do not believe that the Mormons are correct and you can have the same permission. I was pointing out the logical fallacy that you base your disbelief upon. If you don't believe the Mormons because of the Bible then you should not believe the New Testament because of the Old Testament and other Jewish writings.

If you don't want to believe the Mormons you should find a better reason not to believe them.

Read the Old Testament, not the King James version. There are some incorrect interpretations of the original in there. In fact in almost every Christian Bible.

For example the original verse that predicts the Birth of the Messiah will be from a young woman, not a virgin.
