O'level Biology, aged 11, lesson 1, topic 1: What is life?
Looks like juve missed out on secondary school education. Shame.
You can not evaluate life form by using our standard of life. It is a mistake if you want to evaluate the life form of space aliens.
The rock on your kitchen counter is still breathing, even it is dying slowly.
If you break "a" rock into two pieces, then you get "two" rocks. I think you can chop the root of some plants to do the same.
If kill a rock is a criminal, then all farmers should be put into jail too.
So rocks are alive, as long as you get to redefine what "alive" means.
What about all the asteroids? They've been in space for billions of years. Have they all suffocated and died?
What does that make gas?
A rock can be detected and identified, and is unique.
A rock is a self sustaining system.
When a rock died, those functions ceased.
There is evidence behind my opinion as well. Birds change into a variety of birds. It can be observed, repeated and tested.
If a bird can turn into a dinosaur or a fish or something else then we should be able to see the evidence. Where is it?

No, a rock is not a self sustaining system. There are no functions that keep it "alive," therefore it cannot die. It does not undertake any of these key attributes of life:
-Response to environment
-Homeostasis
-Reproduction
Then I guess liquid water is the corpse of an ice cube
Rock respond to environment all the time.
A rock system is trying to move toward homeostasis all the time.
A type or rock do can become more populated or less populated.
More?

Sometimes a pebble will impact a bigger asteroid and it will therefore "grow." Does that count as being alive?
Not bad. You may think all glacial ice are alive. They even move on themselves.

Every dead legitimate geologist is rolling in their graves
And every live one is having a stroke.
