God knows what will happen before it happens. Everything was created for His pleasure. Everything is going according to the plans of God.

God created the universe and everything in it .... and created it all perfect and good and gave dominion (kingship) over the earth to human beings and to have a loving relationship with Him. When Adam and Eve sinned it's dominion (kingship of the earth) was taken over by satan from Adam and Eve and the prefect relationship between the creator and creation became severed .... war (of ideas) issued between God and satan .... we humans live in a "battlefield", although we know how the war ends .... until His return .... many "battles".

The conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God’s adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin.

This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the global flood, as presented in the historical account of Genesis 1-11.

Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated.

Ever since Adam’s and Eve’s rebellion, humanity has had a distorted view of God. We struggle with satan’s lie about God’s character and are now born with a natural tendency toward selfishness. We cannot regain our once-perfect nature on our own. Only through God’s help are we able to choose His way and aid in the war against sin and satan (Romans 5:12-21).

God created the world perfectly, the garden was just the area set aside for humanity, all was perfection inside and outside the garden.
After each creative stage God said it was good and after completing everything he said it was very good.
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Not just the garden, everything.

Adam's sin corrupted not only humanity but also the world. The world around us even the beautiful parts are corrupted and groaning from sin.
Romans 8:22
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
The creation will be set free as will our bodies when Jesus returns.

Death is an enemy that will be destroyed.
20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

The purpose of this world is for God to gather a group of people unto his own to be with him and live on the new earth that he plans.
21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Because of what it symbolized.
The garden was a shadow of the new earth to come. We need to remember that God's ultimate plan is a perfect world for the people who have chosen him. But we have to go through this world to be able to choose him. This is where we get to decide.

Much of the Old Testament is a shadow of things to come. It shows through symbolism a truth that is to come, sometimes the truth is shown as a fail is the Old and a success in the New or incomplete in the old and complete or fulfilled in the new.
I think most people know that when the Israelite placed lambs blood on their doorways to stop the angel of death it was a symbol/shadow of Jesus being the lamb and how his blood would save.
1 Corinthians 5:7
7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us

So back to the garden, the garden had two trees, the tree of Life and the tree of the knowledge of Good and evil. Mankind's choice. God's way or Satan's way?

Then when you read about the new earth there are again 2 trees but this time both are a tree of life.
Revelation 22

22 And he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him
Here is the ultimate fulfillment of the garden shadow. Where once more mankind has 2 trees but this time both are the tree of life. Because the people here are those who made the choice for God. And then there is no longer any curse.

Part of the curse was hard work.
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food

Perhaps the garden stayed there uncorrupted until the flood destroyed it, to remind mankind of what he had thrown away. In any case they were not allowed back into Eden simply by there own wanting it. Mankind had made his choice and now he had to deal with it. To get back into a right relationship with God, to get the world back to how it was would take great sacrifice. First Jesus would have to die to redeem our lost spirits but later return and complete everything at the end of the world.
Revelation 1:7
Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
There is a board here dedicated to the end times.

We are saved now but we do not receive our glorified bodies until Christ returns.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17


16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The garden was a shadow of the new earth to come.

But you said they were basically the same ''all was perfection inside and outside the garden''. I say the Garden was under the governance of God, the world under the governance of the adversary and man having become adversarial ourselves, recreated the world outside in our own image.

There are two forms of death, spiritual death and physical death.

The verse I quoted is physical death. God isn't just promising to remove spiritual death but later at the end physical death as well. There will be no more death after that point. Jesus has already saved us from spiritual death, we are alive in Christ but we have not yet experienced our glorified immortal bodies yet, we don't live on the new world yet. This is still to come. That is the ultimate plan of Jesus for return and to bring in the new world. At that point there is one last death for those who don't choose God. The second death.
Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years (Revelation 20:6)

The final judgment, or the lake of fire, is the time when the second death occurs.
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death (Revelation 20:14).
The second death is for unbelievers after that 1000 years. Those who experience this death are all those whose names are not found written in the Book of Life.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.”
This is what Christianity is about, it's what our hope is. Too many focus on heaven, but heaven is merely the waiting room, a place for the spirit. The new heavens and new earth is the ultimate place that God has planed for and its for us physically and spiritually with glorified bodies.

We know the entire world was prefect because once God had finished creating he said it was 'very Good'. The world you see now is the groaning world and it too will be freed along with us. The lion will once again lay with the lamb and there will be no more death, crying or pain.
