Yes, I have always seen the difference you are describing. But I have also seen the real, living faith as being validly defined as religion, even according to this definition:

• A belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
  
• A cause, a principle, or an activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion

Please, do not get in the camp that I believe all religion is bad. All denominations are bad and so on.

I don't know, TBH, whether it might have had some positive impact in that way. I do imagine it could have had a positive impact on that in a rather indirect way, yes.

I meant obedience. Nothing about beliefs or discussing with religionists, and I cannot imagine how you have assumed that is relevant. Have you done what He has required you to do? If not, then do you think that is helping Him or hindering Him?

An example might be "donations to religions are exempt from tax" - I wonder if you would like to offer a different version of that expression.

If you were to follow those rules that Jesus allegedly laid down or endorsed, it would seem like you are trying differentiate between a silvery thing with gills that swims in the water, and a fish.
