  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

and still get lots of great Christian TV and radio channels. Come on, I can't believe that after 9 years Sky Angel has been around, it doesn't make it on a Chrstiain forum about digital cable or satellite!
There are "good" Christian TV stations on the network??? Well the music choice's Christian music stations are pretty good, but besides that.............

besides that...what? Do you think Sky is typical Christian channels like on Directv? have you seen Faith TV? How about Gaurdian, it's a Pax affiliate or Liberty.

I have Dish Network, never going back to cable. I have heard Time Warner cable is pretty good though.

So in2nas, you have DISH. Have you looked into Sky Angel, being that you r a Christain and Sky Angel has loads of Christian TV and other great channels, like Fox News, Hallmark and Hallmark Movie channel. If you live in Indy, and are getting the locals from DISH, then you get a free second dish in order to get more of your locals that you are already paying for but not receiving, look into it by calling DISH, then you can get Sky Angel:)

I dislike cable, because of the way they acted when they had the monopoly
on multiple channels. High rates and installation fees($60, when all they did was connect the wires at the pole)

Dish is great.
But I have had issues with the dish. We have had to have dish worked on 3 times in 1 year. I believe ours is an isolated problem though.

When cable makes the statement about poor reception during bad weather,
I laugh.
Go to your local cable company and look behind the store.
Dish reception is how the cable company gets most channels.^_^

Even with our problems I would think hard before giving any more money to
cable.

Digital cable kicks booty IMO - that's my preference.

I only have dealt with the "dish" once. I was staying at a Residence Inn trying to watch a football game - it's storming outside - next thing I know the signal is gone. I have no desire to pay to have something that's that finicky. I'll keep my cable which rarely goes out, and if it does, I have 24 hour customer service.

I am getting REALLY tired of my cable company and am looking at Dish Network. Anyone have any opinions- good or bad re Dish. Am I cutting off my nose to spite my face? Should I just suck it up and pay the next rate hike and keep quiet about losing HBO? Should I upgrade to Digital with the cable (even though they won't give me the price break because we already have the basic service and aren't "new" customers? TELL ME WHAT TO DO?!?!? :sigh:

I had Dish Network. I had no problems with Dish Network - I love the service very much, but like cable tv it just go to expensive so I switched to DirecTV. The service is the same as Dish Network but cheaper.

I will NEVER go back to cable!

Ric,
Unless you have the top tier at Direct, Total Choice plus, DISH is cheaper. DISH is $26.99 for thier AT60 and Direct starts at $41.99. Also, I still can't believe Believers have not looked into SKY ANGEL? I guess you all also go to WalMart for your Christian books and gifts. Oh well, my local Christian store is closing, let's hope other Christian companies aren't short changed by thier own. Do you ALL realize that you are paying MTV almost $1 every month to produce the filth they produce? That is right, ever month when you send your subscription money to your cable company, they turn around and send part of it to Viacom (MTV).

Actually my Dish Network was $74.87 a month and my DirecTV is $57.70 a month with more choices! I don't subscribe to the premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc...), but I did have Sky Angel for over a year and a half, I decided to cancel Sky Angel due to the fact that most of the programming was in the "Word of Faith" (false teachings) context.

The Christian channels I now have on DirecTV are more and better than Dish Network, and besides two of the channels being the "WOF" type of false teachings, the others are more Orthodox.

So, you have the TCP, locals and two receivers. Okay, oh, and you pay for the LOGO channel on Direct as well. Directv carries TBN = WOF, TCC=WOF, Word =WOF, I-LIFE=WOF, Daystar=WOF and WHT=WOF if you look at the owners, even though the channel is very mild and airs a lot of secular programs, like Lassie, Lone Ranger and movies in the afternoon.

Well, I've had Sky Angel for 9 years and I look right past it. Actually, it's barly there now since INSP, Daystar and WHT are gone, replaced by Fox News and two Hallmark channels and soon HGTV. Did you ever see Faith TV? How about Liberty? You now have moved to a service with more WOF channels and tons of channels you should make a stand against as a Christian. Good move.

We signed up with DISH when we bought our house in 2001.

We were very happy with the picture, the DVR and all the viewing options, TV Guide options, etc.

We dropped them in 2004 during their battle with VIACOM. We weren't at all happy with their customer "service" when we did that. They gave us a bunch of hassle. We wanted to keep SkyAngel, but they told us we couldn't because we were "renting" the equipment. (Which was NOT made clear, nor even mentioned when we originally signed up)
The people on the phones were polite, but the "supervisors" I spoke with were downright RUDE!
Well, about the 6th person I talked to to explain my frustration finally apologized for the way we were treated, and gave us 30 days free service so we could try our cable company.
The cable company was offering a special for people leaving DISH. We got the regular channels plus Digital Basic for $11 per month for 3 months.
I didn't like the digital cable. It wasn't as easy to use as the DISH and the picture wasn't as good, and we had fewer options, not to mention that we were no longer getting SkyAngel.
At the end of the 3 month trial, we dropped down to basic cable. It didn't compare at all to DISH.
We finally went back to DISH when they were offering a dial that waived the "reconnection fee".
I'll never go back to cable again. We pay less each month now for DISH than what we were paying for basic cable.

Yep, that was the reason of my comment on post #21 of this thread. I don't know of what others you are referring to though. West coast transponders we have two word faith channels, a catholic channel and two music channels (non video). The only thing I'd probably like off SA is the CSN, but I get most of it over the radio where I am at. Would be nice to have some Evangelical/Orthodox video stations though.

Sorry you feel that way.

I know my DirecTV has WOF channels on it, but those are the same ones Dish Network had. DirecTV has a few more Christian channels on it than Dish had - so I can choose the true Orthodox programming. Plus in my local line up I have all of the local Christian channels which Dish Network did not provide for me.

As for LOGO, I blocked mine on all of my receivers. DirecTV is not the only satellite company that has LOGO, plus most cable companies have LOGO too - so that's not an issue. We'll let me market take care of LOGO (I personally believe it will not survive a year!).

BTW/ You do not know me so you should not judge my character, by doing so just shows yours. ;)

Agreed!

When I had Sky Angel it was great that the only channel(s) I watched was Praise TV (and the discontinued that) and Faith Network. I could not justify spending the amount of money just for one channel (and I paid yearly to make it cheaper too) that did have a good amount of good Christian Orthodox programming and also broadcasted a lot of WOF programming too.

There is one 30 minute spot that runs on tbn once a week that I like to watch, but go figure, tbn runs a disclaimer at the beginning saying that the views & opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect the station. It was the only way they would let the popular show run on the station because the host has spoken out against the WOF teachings. They run movies sometimes but those are few and far between.

Well, I just have to say that the WOF channels or preachers you are talking about have gone. No Daystar, no INSP, no World Harvest, no Benny Hinn channel. It's still there, but you still don't get it. Do you think Logo cares if you block there channel? You know, if you ask to hold the pickels, they don't give you a discount off the burger, you are still paying for it and they are not serving it to you.
