corinthians 14
Let two or three (BA)prophets speak, and let the others (BB)pass judgment.
But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent.
For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted;
and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets;
for God is not a God of (BC)confusion but of peace, as in (BD)all the churches of the (BE)saints.
Ok, most people know that the words here prophesy and prophets are the greek words propheteuo (telling forth the divine counsels, or as we see "preaching") and prophetes (a proclaimer of a divine message, or "preacher", and as far as i have sen in scripture the "over seer" office). Now what gets me is, as it seems, in all of the services i have been to from child hood till now, this has not been so, there has usually been one speaker, no one sitting aside and listening to see if they are correct in their speaking or not, no one has anything to add, there is just the one speaker. How did church service end up like this? so that there is one who preaches, and no one to take away (if they are wrong in wording etc.) nor add (If more needs to be said).
