  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry but it specifically says "round all about" and that means circular. But let's suppose you have explained this one; What about the rest?;)
I like the way there are so many different correct answers for this one.

Help me with the list Im sure Im missing some.

1. they used different cubits for diameter and circumference
2. circumference was outside measurement, diameter was inside measurement
3. tank was oval

all of those? or which one? maybe all, like three dogs are my homework.

All of those are explanations, kind of like the dog ate my homework is an explanation. They are concocted, and at their core, they are lies because they are statements of fact not in evidence.

there is no way they could have made the tank or the measurements exact.

which is the point here.

the bible is only approximately correct.

for an inerrentarian to admit that anything at all in the bible is approximate is terrifying. its peeping out of the closet to see a terrible storm of doubt, uncertainty and worse, untidy reality out there.

If the bible is approximate here, how far off is it there? how many places is it how wrong?

Nooooooo the wind is howling dont go there! Back in the closet.

1 Kings 7:23 "He made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other
Those are all PRATTS (Points refuted a thousand times) Even though they have been refuted people do not want to accept the truth and they keep repeating them over and over again. Also we need to remember the Bible is 3500 years old. We are not always going to understand everything in a document that many years old. But for the most part we understand it pretty good. Esp compared to the other documents from that era, like the hieroglyphics we find in Egypt where we do not have nearly as good of a understanding as we do of the books of Moses. Of course Moses was from Egypt, but he used the more modern from of writing on papryus.

Number 2. These are working drawings for people to actually build them. The vessel has a thickness and of course the bigger the vessel the more thick it is going to have to be. A lot of these vessels are being build again for the new temple the Sanhedren plan to build on the temple mount in Jerusalem. The temple will go up in 3 1/2 years so they have to get everything ready to go. I am not so sure I would want to build from a blue print that was 3500 years old. But they seem to manage somehow to get it all to work. I do not know if it is true, but one story is that every year they set the cornerstone and prepare to build the temple. But the authorities come along and make them remove the building stones and chase them off.

 -- Aren't we celebrating the Bible's 400th birthday this year?
Oh dear here it comes! Attention non KJV1611 Christians. This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill. All non KJV Christians must evacuate this thread....................

I guess that leaves us heathens to address your comment AV. ;)

I am related to one of the people who worked on Bible before the 1611 translation. This was a time of the printing press when King James made the Bible available for everyone to read in the English or universal language. (The language of the Brittans, Anglos, Saxtons & Normans living there at the time.)

I know what a pratt is and I know what "dog ate my homework" is too.

Which of the three true explanations about Pi is true, which one refuted the pratt?

In any case.... none of them deal with the obvious which is that nothing could be made perfectly round, nor could the measurements be correct.
Exactly.

so it is approximate. remember when i said approximate?

My point clearly stated elsewhere id that if an innerrant bible believer admits to one approximation then the floodgates are opened to other approximations. How approximate? 50%? 99% wrong? 1%?

That is intolerable to the inerrantarian.

You do see the unintended humour in your picking number two when others have stated with equally inspired conviction that either 1 or 3 is it?

Q: do you have a problem with the idea that the numbers are just approximate?

No, it's not.

When I pass a sign on the road that says: Yigo 4 miles -- I take that sign literally.

I don't wonder if it's 4 miles and 2 inches.

If my speedometer says I'm doing 30 m.p.h., I don't worry it's doing 31.4159 m.p.h.

What does it matter if it's door 1, 2, or 3?

The point is -- no matter what door it is, it is not behind Door 4, which says it is an error in the Bible.

The people that think there is an error in the Bible never read the Bible. They do not like second hand clothing, but they do not mind second hand opinions. The people who spend their whole life to study the Bible do not find any errors. (NOTE: I do not say this to offend anyone, it is just a figure of speech, a teaching aid to get a point across)

I realize that -- that's why most of their junk is copy-and-paste throw-aways from some zealot's website.

I don't think half these people realize what they're saying when they quote something against a passage of Scripture.

On the contrary, I don't think you know what you're saying.

It use to be if something were 99.99% pure that was good enough for people. Now with nanotechnology they can filter air and water within a Billionth.

so? is that admitting that the numers are not accurate? as in approximate?

do you have a problem with the FACT that the bible is only approximately correct?

the numbers btw are a whole lot more wrong than .01%
