I am a new Christian and have never been happier since turning my life over to God, but there are always questions that come up that bother me. Here is one,
why does God seem so much different in the old testament than he does in the new testament???? I am sure there is an explanation, and I am looking foreward to your answers. :help:

What difference do you see? God is love, yet He will also bring judgment to the world and to wickedness of man if it is not repented of. He did that (judged) in the Old Testament, and after the grace of Jesus Christ has been accepted or rejected by all the people who will ever live, judgment comes again, first in His own house and then to the world. God is always fair and just in His judgments and holds the power to give life. It all comes from Him and returns to Him, and although mankind deserves to die, He chose to give His own life for us and suffer our punishment. All that accept His work as payment for sin have already had their judgment at the cross.
The Bible says that God does not change, but the revelation of God has been different as man has come to know Him differently through history and through Jesus. The people in the Old Testament looked forward to His coming and we look back at the cross, His second coming will bring with it the physical Kingdom.

1Pe 4:17 For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin first among God’s own children. And if even we Christians must be judged, what terrible fate awaits those who have never believed God’s Good News?

Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Mal 3:6 "I am the LORD, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already completely destroyed.

God is good- all the time!

there are a lot of differences in the old and new testament - God spoke directly to people in the old and He brought flood and fire and all that stuff but that doesnt mean He hates sin any less in the new.

the whole bible shows different aspects of God and they are all true.
both books point to one person: Jesus Christ who saves, and the bible has one message: God's great love.

as a new believer, it would be good to finish reading the new testament first because it is easier to understand. as you grow, you will come to appreciate the ot more :)

The primary emphasis in the Old Testament is on rules and regulations. The primary emphasis in the New Testament is on love and forgiveness.Jesus was sent to earth to teach the revised version of the Old Testament when God determined that humans had socially matured and grown more mentally sophisticated. We treat our children in the same way. When they are young we insist that they follow strict rules because they have limited intellect. As they grow into teens,we give them more freedom, the ability to exercise their free will and teach them social responsibility.

What will be fascinating to discover is what Jesus' new teachings will be when He sets up His kingdom on earth for mature Christians. One thing the Bible promises is that He will not teach that there are "just wars" as many ministers with a teenage mindset are teaching today.Jesus' kingdom will be reserved for mature Christians who take very seriously His teaching to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and who reject the political teaching that we must kill to obtain freedom. Not even the most primitive animals believe in that perverted morality.
