• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"A simple to test to determine if your mission on Earth is finished:

If you are still alive.......it isn't." (R.Bach in "Illusions")

I'd say, don't worry about it. If it is time to go, you will go. But you won't go until your work is done, from God's point of view. We humans tend to think we are more important than we truly are and that we have to do great things. We don't. Just do what is in front of you and do it well.

beacuse morality looks like mortality

i just feel like i will.
Just because you feel like you'll die soon doesn't mean that you will die soon. You're only 17, you're still so young. Unless you had some sort of fatal illness, I don't see how (or why) you would end up dying at your age. Is this a constant worry of yours? If so, then maybe you should start seeing a therapist. My therapist has helped me loads with all of my different fears and worries.

Just by living you have effected the world and the people around you. Even if it is just a little, for good or for bad. So you may have felt like you have done nothing useful, but you may have influenced someone to influence someone else, etc.

But if you think you have to leave a mark on the world before you die, then your just going to have to go out and do something. Either a job, or volunteer work, or just go out and pick up one piece of trash. Then you will be adding to your world instead of feeling like you are just existing.

This, there is no reason to be depressed and there are treatments that can help. I'm not saying that it's necessarily easy, but it can be done.

What if i die soon and I havn't realy done anything or generaly been any use what soever? what should i do?

I feel the same way now. I don't know what else there is to do except to things that take your mind off death. Supposedly when you're having fun and knowing exactly what you want to do in life, those feelings will disappear.

MercuryAndy-I went through what it seems you're going through a couple of years ago. I had a very irrational fear of death and was horrified that I was going to die before I could do anything I really wanted to do. It was a very horrible and constant feeling. But I soon realized that I had this fear because I wasn't doing anything. So, even though I didn't feel like it at the time, I started to hang out with my friends , got active, joined clubs, etc. And slowly those fears went away. I don't know if my situation was similar to yours but I hopefully it helped a little. :)

If you died tomorrow, would you feel like you'd lived a good life?

If not, what does a "good" life mean to you, and what would you have to do or accomplish in order to believe your life had been a "good" one, according to your values?

Every once in awhile I get into a similar sort of existential crisis like what you describe. I'm plagued by the idea that I'm going to die very soon without accomplishing anything, even though I'm in relatively good health, and not very old at all. I've learned to take it as a sign that there's something in my life that I need to do, and as a challenge to go do it. I don't take it as a sign that my life is actually over.

And as others have said, you may have had an impact elsewhere of which you're not aware. Everyone on this planet interacts with others somehow, for good or ill. That makes life a very rich and complex thing, full of possibility.

If you find any of what I've said useful, then you're very welcome to it. In any case I hope things look up.

How about going across to the prayer forum and praying for some of the hurting folks there... take your mind off your own worries and do some good!
Because prayer is the greatest thing you can do... and less prone to failure than political coups or starting a business!!

Praying that God will help you through this .

Praying is fine, but in my book doing something is better. Not that you can't pray and do something, but I think doing something is the important part.

Well, IMO, praying is doing something - but I can see that you wouldn't agree with that!
True, and I can see why you think it is doing something.

But yes - doing something is important too.
Then we agree. :)

The most amazing person I ever met never did any great deads. She only did the things she wished fearlesly and with great passion. She died way too young, but I think she lived more fully than many people. I believe what you do matters less then how you do it.

We each decide our own pourpose. It sounds like you need to decide what is right for you.

You're 17, nobody expects a 17 year old to have accomplished these things. I do know what you mean, I haven't been able to work on what I actually would like to either. But that doesn't mean that I'm not working on getting there. You want to start a business or lead the country, by all means go for it (even if you start by just figuring out what you need to do and know to start). It's really about the only thing that you can do to accomplish any goals.
