  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What's your favorite thing about Christmas?
Like any heavy metal bands?
Favorite TV show?

My favourite thing(s) about Christmas are the decorations and the FOOD!!!:yum:

Heavy Metal bands? How many? Well, how long is a piece of string? It depends on what you class as heavy metal, but I like Rage against the Machine, Queens of the stone age, Feeder, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Sound Garden, System of a Down, Velvet Revolver (Great name!), Foo Fighters, Oasis, Guns n Roses (Welcome to the Jungle  ); just to name a few.

As much as I like the aggressive energy in Heavy Metal, I'm careful that what I'm listening to isn't completely soaked in hatred, because for me, it only eats away at me until I'm tired.

Hmmm, TV. Frasier is/was very good. I do like The Simpsons too. Ooooooooo, I know!

Yeah, I guess so. I just couldn't believe it, though. I'm just too logical.:p

I can be serious, but I can laugh maniacally when I want too. I meant that I was too logical when trying to figure out that phonetic riddle.

And Leslie, I have answered your questions, please scroll up.;) :doh:Post#62, my dear.

Wow, that's great. My mum likes 24 too, the only bad thing is when it's on TV and you have to wait a WHOLE WEEK to find out what happens. We still haven't seen Day 5 yet, but we're hoping to get it for Christmas.

I love the scripts for Frasier, Kelsey Grammer is Hilarious. And the Simpsons, well, I don't really need to say anything. I only have the Greatest Hits albums for Iron Maiden and Nirvana, but I might get "Rock in Rio" by Iron Maiden (their Live album). I think 2 Minutes to Midnight, Wasted Years and The Wicker Man are my favourites.

Have you read Antony Kiedis' Autobiography? It's quite an insight into why and how The Chilli's sound the way they do. Mainly a lifetime of Drug abuse and interesting characters, but a very good read.

Thanks for complimenting me on my manners, I'm not sure how they come across exactly on a Forum, but they're free, so there's little excuse not to use them. Although, I'm far from being perfect, so please don't think I'm above being bad (albeit only occassionally, your Honour).

As for the most shocking thing I've done, well. It depends how you define shocking. Can't I just plead the fifth? I think its the 5th Amendment that prevents me from incriminating myself, isn't it?

I could tell you what I haven't done?

Ok, I'll behave now. When I might have been about 16, a friend and I might have got a layout of our school and we might have planned to sneak inside in the dead of night. We may or may not have been unsuccessful in getting into any of the buildings, and so we might've just given up and gone back to my friends house to play Playstation games until 3am. Or not.

As I am new to Maiden, that's all I have as well, the 2-disc set. My favorites are The Trooper and Sign of the Cross. And yep, Nirvana too, the only CD I have is Unplugged, but I like it best.

Glad you haven't done anything too terrible....or not. :D

Ever been in love?

Wow, that's a good question. I thought I was once, but they called it puppy love, it wasn't fully grown.

Sorry, I couldn't resist (can you smell the cheesyness?).:yum:

It was more of an infatuation with a friend who wanted compassion, which I was willing to give. I'd like to think that I've grown since I was 17, enough to build adult friendships that at least could provide a stable basis for love, if it was appropriate.

It's funny how back then, it seemed so important and now it's merely a distant memory. I'll take baby steps from now on; you can't rush God.:amen:
So sorry! Deepest apologies, must be old age setting in. Ok, so hope i'm forgiven. Your own fault! You're too charming, makes me nervous! ;) Ok then, your thoughts on Machiavelli? (I don't know much, lol, my future son-in-law is a poli-sci major.)

Well, to be honest, I didn't know much until you asked me. Thank goodness for Google.:D Even now, I'm merely familiar with Niccolo Machiavelli and his books. As far as I know, he (and he alone?) has formed the concept of "neccessary evil", but such actions are only justified when they serve the greater good/the good of the nation/the majority, and not when the goal is individual gain. It would seem that most people have missed that crucial point, which resulted in an undeservedly bad reputation for poor Nicci.

Although he probably didn't know it (because he was dead), he influenced Thomas Hobbes, the author of Leviathan. Apparently, this is the basis for nearly all subsequent Western Political Philosophy.

I guess you could take that as Machiavelli in a nut shell; overall he's a fairly smart chap.

BTW, it was never my intention to make you or anyone else nervous, but I think you may have given me a glimpse into why people react to me in the way they do. If you could explain what you meant exactly, it would be quite useful to me, mainly so I can adjust my approach to people, if needed. Thanks Leslie.

P.S. Don't worry about the memory lapse, it happens to us all. Sometimes when I'm watching the Simpsons, the advert break is SO long, I forget what programme I'm watching.

Seems you're very close to your family, admirable, would ever move far away?

I know they say that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone, but I do wonder what it would be like to live abroad. To be honest, England is SO small, compared to the US, that even if you move to the opposite end of the country, it's not that far. Having spent a little time abroad, including America, I'd say that moving to a different country seems quite enjoyable.

Sure, it's nice to be near your family, but there comes a point were you've got to do what's right for you. I don't mean that in a selfish way, and I think it's just a part of life (usually) for the child to leave the parent, and for the parent to trust in their offspring's judgement.

I'd like to see more of America too; I think its interesting how our cultures are so similar, yet so distinctive. Kinda like Dark Chocolate and Milk Chocolate, if you know what I mean.

Good analogy, and you're right. I have so much fun learning from my other friend on here about England. So many similarities, and then suddenly a shocking difference, lol. It's fun. We are a big country, huge. And you're right about the kids leaving, seems to be the way it goes. And you might not stay gone forever anyhow. Have you a state in mind you might like to live here?

I think I'd have to see a few of them, before I could settle on one. I know an elderly lady in Oregon, but I've forgotton which area at the moment. As I might've said earlier in the thread, I've got family and friends in Arizona, but it depends, if there was ever a young lady in my life, in which case a completely different location could take priority.

Of course, I could even get one of those Dodge Ram 3500 Dually's, a fifth wheel kit, and a trailerhome and just go everywhere, before finding somewhere to nest. That appeals to me in theory, I don't know what it would be like in practice. You're welcome to join me though.

To be honest, I think you'd have to know me to know what was odd about me. There's nothing that spring to my mind, at least.

Unless you count politeness as being odd? I've met people that do.....

haha nah... politeness isnt odd... unless you are too polite. I have met people like that... kinda eerie.

Any favorite sports teams?

I would love to, thanks!!! I love RV'ing, not that much trouble, really nice cuz you've got essentially your home with you. Good option!!
Where would you start your trek, i'm in Oregon btw, lol.

Well, we could start in Oregon if you like and then decide to go either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Depends on where I buy my truck, I guess. If I was taking this once-in-a-lifetime roadtrip, I'd be sure to see as much as possible.

I'm don't really have a favourite sports team, but if the Az Cardinals are playing then I might watch for the outcome. To be honest though, I'm fickle when it comes to teams.
