Did Luke have access to the complete Matthew?

so old enough.
It's been updated, and updated. I have a couple of them. One is in the 1600's spelling and the other one is modern spelling/alphabet but ye olde wording/vocabulary.

My understanding is that most people mean an 1800's update when they say KJV. I think that I do, or that perhaps mine is even newer than that.

but prefer it now
I get your point.

I was the opposite but the older language is growing on me.

I still use an NRSV daily but my RSV is looking better to me recently, for exactly the reason you mention. The print is a bit small for my aging eyes but its still not too bad. I'm considering getting my RSV rebound to make it more posh somehow.

My KJV (modern spelling) is more likable to me now than a few years ago. It's fairly good and to the point. I like it as an audio bible as well. The language is a bit flowery but at the same time, it's not dumbed-down to the point of absurdity and it's quite clear. I'm reading it more and more now.

Regarding older language, the RSV still wins though, for me at least. I may end up going all KJV in the future, you never know. :)

Understood. But you make a good point about flowery. It is a nod to the style of not only the OT writers but a style of writing of the later Greek style as well. There comes a point, when verse looks and sounds like a text, that more than the words get lost.

To me, Matthew's gospel is to clear up the rumors already surrounding the Jews centered on the children killing in Bethlehem. The story starts with the virgin birth, magi and etc. It doesn't seem that the Jews cared about anything by bloodline when they accepted that the Messiah must come by a virgin birth, as virgin birth itself means "not from the earthly father".

Luke's gospel is with some information directly from Mary, Jesus' mother. I think that it may be a gentile concept when it is said that Jesus is from David. The genealogy of Mary made that happen.

No, it was and is entirely Jewish, and also for gentiles as the Father grants understanding without reproach to all men who ask Him , and not a concept, but a reality as written throughout all Scripture.
This is more fully described at some Jewish (Ekklesia, born again ones) sites. And has been well known for centuries, probably since the first century, to God's children, though not to all of them.

Matthew was perfectly Inspired, Breathed by Yahuweh thru His chosen messenger. The Jews had intense necessary interest in the blood line, as it was necessary to be perfectly in line with all Scripture to be fulfilled.
