  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did Jesus say he would return a LONG time ago?

Did Jesus say he would return a LONG time ago?

ive been catching verses where the apostiles and even Jesus made it sound VERY MUCH like Christ returning in that generation. I think Jesus even says, somthingl like , this generation will not pass before they see the son of man coming in his kingdom. and that was just after he taught of the signs of the end times. ( false Christs etc) also the apostiles when writing to the churches seemed to stress this also. saying we must ready ourselves for the time is at hand etc....

now i know Jesus is not lier. but the only thing i can figure is that Jesus meant one thing but the apostiles understood it as another?? like thinking they would be raptured out?

I believe that the generation Jesus was refering to is the generation alive when the olive tree budded (Matt 24 I think) That was, I think, when Israel was declared a nation again in 1948. So while some of that generation still survive, there is still time for this to be true.
I'm sure there wil;l be many conflicting opinions on this, but that's mine.

Greetings,

I agree with Macca. We know that Christ shall reign for 1,000 years in this earth with all His saints after His 2nd Advent. A thousand years have come and gone since the cross and though I recognize Christ's presence all around me and in me, it is the Christ "spirit" I now am reigning with. There will be a "literal" reign of Christ on this earth.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

Let's look at it in context:

Matthew 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

(also repeated in Mark 13 and Luke 21)

The generation HE is referring to has to do with the subject HE just taught - the Parable of the Fig Tree. "This generation" = the generation of the Fig Tree. This was meant to send you back to Jeremiah 24 where the prophecy of the good and bad figs returning to Jerusalem was made. The figs returned to Jerusalem in 1948, hence the generation of the Fig Tree began then. "This generation" has only been around for about 57 years, not 2000 years.
